From the review:

"The battle scenes here are not gory and disgusting. They look like a dream of Medieval Knights with red flags flapping and silver armor shining...and, you know, charging unicorns and fawns and things."

Yes, because war is so pretty and wonderful. The Crusades were a lovely chapter in history, when wars were fought with gumdrops and rainbows and people bled hot fudge.

Eeeeeesh.

Yup, that's how it works. You like, stab someone and they die. That's it. There's none of that awkward "bleeding" stuff.

She equates war with chargin unicorns and fawns. This woman's view of reality couldn't be more messed up.

The dream of Medieval Knights was to not die of a horribly painful infection after being wounded, not reg flags flapping.

WTH do the Crusades have to do with Narnia?

What does this have to do with a kids movie? 😕

Medieval knights existed in the times of the Crusades. I'm simply taking her bizarre thought process out to its illogical conclusion.

Word is, Disney's going the same route Gibson did for the Passion - Trying to generate WOM by catering to the religious crowd.

well C.S. Lewis is a well known and respected apologist. Having gone to Catholic schools most my life I've read many of his works on those topics and I can't stand them. Should have stuck to writing charming children's novels.

They might generate religious interest in this movie but they will generate a different type of religious interest - this movie has magic and unicorns and the like, the kinds of things that most of the crazy fundies associate with Satan. If this movie goes the religious route it will aim at the more intelligent of the christians who have enough common sense to be bearable.

Not sure about that - Did you read the review at the link?

I don't see how this is comparible. The Passion of the Christ was based on events written in the Bible. It was a 100% religious movie without any need to 'cater' to the religious crowd. In fact, you may recall that many groups became vocal claiming The Passion is an attack on Jews.

Narnia is a world based in fantasy with undercurrents that relate to Christianity. It is completely possible to read and enjoy the books without understanding and/or picking up on any of the Christianity ideas. I suspect the same will be true of the movie. So why would anyone 'cater' to the religious crowd?

I haven't read the review. Based on the comments in this thread, my guess is that the violence in the movie is 'kiddish' because the movie is being catered to adults that have read The Chronicles of Narnia and kids that have read or are reading them now. Like others have said, you don't make a kids movie like Braveheart and expect most parents to take their kids to see it.
