Napster Lives!!

I would have no problem paying a small monthly fee to use this service. Its better than buying a $20 cd for 1-2 good songs.

If they start charging a monthly fee, less people will be using it. This means that the resources for MP3s will be smaller. I'm a poor starving college student .. I have enough bills to worry about.
 
whaaa? they want me to pay to use napster....? isnt the reason that people use napster not to spend money on cd's? how does that make any sense? well if this continues you can expect to see napsters user base fall signifigantly .....i know ill stop useing it if they start charging for it.

Now if they could just get some of those other money pig music lables to commit, and keep the price under $10 a month, hell yeh! I'd sign up.

For those of you bitching about $5 a month, pull the lump of coal out of your ass cuz it ain't gonna turn into a diamond.

If I could spend $10 a month for free perusal of three or four record companies song archive, it would still be a hell of a lot cheaper than my current habit of buying 3 or 4 $13 dollar CD's a month.

Having some diversity and selection will be the key. Without, they aren't going anywhere.
 
I'd pay $5 a month for sure for unlimited downloading. The only problem is that so many people won't and there will be much less people on meaning that you'll have a hard time finding some songs. Are they going to ever combine all the servers into one?
 
the point is why would i pay 5 dollars when i can go on IRC and get it for free? mabey it's not the most honerable thing to do but im sure that ALOT of people are going to do it.

WE pay $5 so that WE can share OUR songs on OUR computers...

methinks that THEY should be the ones with the files if we are PAYING.

piku, couldn't agree more... I've been "sharing" mp3's before napster ever existed and i'll be "sharing" them long after it dies. It's going to suck for all those people who don't know what IRC is or even what an FTP is, but none of us have to worry about that...

In preparation for the fall of Napster:

Anyone interested in "sharing" accounts for electronic music? 🙂
 
How about we all get together...download as much music (from all genres) while we can, get some servers together and create another Napster variant and make it FREE! Just a thought...idea...whatever

I could only begin to imagine how many MP3z AnandTech forum members have combined.

Then again, $5 isn't a lot of money for a monthly fee.
 
MaxFPS, it's not that $5 a month is a lot... it's the principle of the matter... Why am I going to suddenly start paying for something that I haven't had to pay for in years... napster isn't the be all end all of file sharing, just makes it easy. As far as setting up another, that'd be a great idea, but I'm sure it won't fly. I say we all just go back to the good old days of ftp account swapping 🙂. Like i said b4, if anyone has any electronica, LMK! 🙂
