is it possible to take frequent 2 hour naps to replace a long period of sleep (6hrs +) for a long period of time?

Didn't work for Kramer.

But no, your body really needs deep sleep. I'm no scientist, so don't ask me why, but I'm sure there have been studies done to show that the mind and body do all kinds of weird stuff during REM sleep that we still have yet to understand.

If you actually wanted to do something like this I would say research about how long it takes to complete a sleep cycle. You might be able to split them up like that but I have no idea really. Something about the sums not adding up to the whole. Go try it out champ.
