I was actually surprised to read how influential this astrologer was in the Reagan's everyday lives during their years in the White House.

Imagine that....an astrologer having that much control over the decision making processes of the POTUS since the assassination attempt on him and especially over a president that was possibly suffering from Alzheimer's at the time.

“Virtually every major move and decision the Reagans made during my time as White House chief of staff was cleared in advance with a woman in San Francisco who drew up horoscopes to make certain that the planets were in a favorable alignment for the enterprise,” he wrote in the memoir, “For the Record: From Wall Street to Washington.”

I hardly doubt that at all considering Reagan was considered by many to be a fundamentalist Christian....

I also recently learned about Dr Oz after hearing the name at work, and that he's evidently got a popular show wherein he peddles or recommends worthless snake oil, which many people actually watch and even believe.

And then there's this. o_O
Elected officials and their families listening to someone who truly believes ancient superstitions.

Even with so much advancement in humanity's knowledge over the centuries, stupidity is still so astonishingly rampant.

This sounds a little more like it:

"A California astrologer said she had been consulted by the Reagans regarding key White House decisions, but Mr. Reagan said astrology had not influenced policy."

http://www.nytimes.com/1988/05/04/u...s-reagans-follow-astrology-up-to-a-point.html

Methinks the connection between Ronnie Reagan and the astrologer wasn't so much of a deal. Rather, it was the connection between Nancy and the astrologer that gave the astrologer the strength of influence over Ronnie. IIRC, Nancy was a powerful influence over Ronnie's decision making processes, much more so than other First Ladies, before and after his terms in office.

Given the awful relationship that Donald Regan had with Nancy due to her constant meddling with his duties, and how that strained relationship was a direct cause for Ronnie to actually fire Donald, I'd say Nancy had, with the advice of her astrologer, much more influence over the president's decisions that he made in office that neither Nancy or Ronnie would care to admit to.

edit - *forgive if I'm lax in responding to replies - I'm now at work with a heavy workload today. :)

If it's anything like the astrology you would see in the newspaper then her predictions or advice will sound a lot like what you get in a fortune cookie.

I hardly doubt that at all considering Reagan was considered by many to be a fundamentalist Christian....

"Nancy Reagan began consulting Quigley after the 1981 assassination attempt on her husband. She wanted to keep him from getting shot again, Nancy Reagan wrote in her 1989 memoir, “My Turn

Entertainer Merv Griffin had told her that Quigley had predicted that the day the president was shot was going to be a dangerous one for him.

Quigley would go on to advise Nancy Reagan on dates for presidential trips and news conferences.

The president became aware of the consultations and warned his wife to be careful because it might look odd if it came out, Nancy Reagan wrote in her book.

“If it makes you feel better, go ahead and do it,” she quoted the president as saying.

The consultations were revealed to great embarrassment for the White House in a 1988 book by former White House chief of staff Donald Regan, who blamed the first lady for his ouster a year earlier. Regan said almost every major move and decision the Reagans made during his time as chief of staff was cleared in advance with a woman in San Francisco who drew up horoscopes.
He did not know her identity."

Now where was that thread about Valerie Jarret being Obama's goto person when important decisions have to be made. Nah let's discuss this debunked topic from decades ago.

Oh please, by all means, do provide your proof that Donald Regan is lying through his teeth.

I'd really like to know what the whole truth of the matter is and where you got the info to debunk Regan's account of this so we can settle this matter once and for all.

Considering Reagan was suffering from Alzheimer's while in office, having all your decisions made by a astrologer is probably an improvement.

This is so telling on how stupid Americans are, were, and continue to be. Some, that is.

An hollywood actor, elected president, pretending to be and acting as president, the old puppet man himself, ruled by astrology and the clairvoyant.
Who could see this coming? :D :D :D

My opinion is that, as time goes on, Reagan will be looked at as one of the worst presidents ever. His policies and even his people continue to be a drain on this country.

As time goes on, Reagan is only elevated higher into God Emperor status by the right.

Not surprising, considering he was one of the worst presidents of the century.

Every time I hear about the crazy things going on in the insides of the Reagan administration followed of course by whether he was a good president. I think of this:

reagan_comic.jpg

Then I think of the laughable pseudo-scandals modern republicans cling to when their hero performed many actual scandals in the same vein they feebly tried to fabricate and pin on Obama (and universally failed).
