nameserver question

today i bought my first domain. i'm looking foward to hosting my own website with my home server. it seems as though you would need to configure a nameserver. someone please explain what a nameserver does and the advantages and disadvantages of using the nameserver included in the domain registrar rather than a company such as zoneedit.

The Internet global system keeps Databases of all the actual location of Internet addresses.

Your Namserver is a server that includes the information were to find your specific site.

If you are using an external hosting you have to use their nameserver.

If you Host at home you need to find s DNS service that would direct the traffic to your home server.

In such a case the nameserver would the DNS Service nameserver, and they would direct the traffic to your home server.

If your Registrar provided DNS redirections service you can use them, otherwise you need to use a service like ZoneEdit.
