Names that you think are strange

I was watching the opening to Gilligan's Island the other day and I was wondering - who in the world would name their kid "Gilligan"? That is one odd name. I might have accepted George, Gary or maybe even Gordon - but Gilligan? 😕

Are there any names that have made you wonder what the parents were thinking?

my brother-in-law responded to a missing person call, and had to take down the information for the girl from her mother.

him: What is the girl's name?

mom: Her name is [pronounce it out] "feh mahl"

him: That's an interesting name.

mom: The hospital named her. When she was born they filled that in, and we thought it was a nice name, so we kept it.

him: [I hate my job]

Read the chapter of Freakonomics about black children's names.

There was a time when those names were popular. I remember hearing of a lady named "Sheniqua B. Washington" back in the 90s. That name has stuck in my memory ever since.

melena

there have been a few people i've come across named melena.

melena = black, tarry poop because of a gastrointestinal bleed.

Kent, just one vowel away from disaster.

Elliot. For various reasons, it just sounds too much like a girls name. Learning it from Scrubs doesn't help.

"water". Know the family personal. No, the others are not like that one, just normal names.

Also 'noe' hispanic, pronounced "no-way"

I have class with a girl named Sunny Day. I'm not kidding either.

Names like that are the ones that make me got WTF? The town I grew up in had a guy named Peter Wacker. He got so many prank calls you had to know a password in order to place a call to him.

God damn fucking stupid shit names.
If all our last names were Williams, Johnson, Jones or Smith, we'd probably distinguish ourselves more with our first names too. Besides, what should they do instead, name children after heroes in a 2,000 year old book about a zombie Jew superstar?

Names I think are strange include Bristol, Piper, Track, Willow and Trig.

Edit: Holy timewarp. I leapfrogged 4 of you sorry bastards 😛

Well, no bias in your post. This place is a laugh and a half.

My first name is "Garth." Dunno what my parents were smokin' when they came up with it 30 years ago.

Actually, I kind of like the name Garth. It is fun to say.
