Names of the dead

Aimster

Lifer
We made a good point why we need the names of the dead in the - U.S. Vietnam Memorial, etc.

What about the Iraqi people? Do you believe they deserve their names to be listed? Not on this board, but over there in Iraq in newspapers or things identical to the Vietnam Memorial.

Should the United States go out of its way to make something like this for people they call "terrorist"? I'm assuming most of you will say no. Then I ask, doesn't their life mean something to the people of Iraq?

What about the people who fought the United States when they invaded Iraq? Do they deserve a memorial in Iraq?

If the Iraqi people feel that a memorial would be proper for their fallen soldiers, let them have them. I think that the feelings of the majority as to whether fighting the US/UK was a just cause will in the end determine whether those monument shall rise.

Soldiers who fought for Nazi Germany had memorials erected for them. The cause is pretty irrelevant in the end when a young man or woman is dead.

You're overthinking the subject. Things don't always need to have some huge cosmic purpose, they just exist because they exist and the "names of the dead" thread qualifies as one of those IMHO. If nothing else it serves as a searchable listing to see if someone you know has been killed. It doesn't do anyone any harm to be there and so I don't see why you're spending all this time pondering the reason for its existence.

I'm not pondering the reason for its existence. The names of the dead are not just on this board, but in newspapers and various websites. I'm just asking if the Iraqi people have a right to see who is killed.

Are we talking about the insurgants or the Iraqi civilians? I guess I am slightly biased but I don't think people who target their own people should be honored.
