I usually prefer to hear the bad news first then get the good news.

Sorta like if I am eating something I'll save the best parts for last.

I have always registered with Network Solutions but lately, I have found out that I am one sucker for paying $35 a year on a few domain names.

Oy, I can't wait til I figure out what I want, along with what the other groups want (I'm trying to get a webpage/forum started for some groups on campus, it should be really fun, and give me some experience in this field...plus we need it badly)

And I hope I can get the domain I want, stupid bastage in Toronto owns it but isn't using it...

this is great, rossman, just one more kick in the ass reminding me to register my domain over the summer. it's a shame you actually have to make content to have a website ;) I'm just shelling out for the custom email ;) oh yeah, might as well give another shoutout to notfred for getting me in gear with html, sql, php and the likes...since this is just a shameless nef anyway :D

Dathron looks really good, too bad my little gaming site doesnt even come close to using a gig a month.

I looked at e-rice and some other budget places mentioned, and I don't remember seeing one that support 50-100 email accounts.

Well, I know I can stick with Dixie's 3.95/mo plan, which is what I actually have right now... but can anyone recommend something better?

ViperV990,

1) What's your monthly budget?
2) How many e-mail addresses do you need?
3) Do you prefer cPanel, Ensim, Plesk or H Sphere control panel?
4) How much webspace and bandwidth do you need?

I have a notify list with 5 AT'ers on it so far, once Andrew begins accepting new accounts I'll be calling AT'ers to notify them.

dathorn.com might begin accepting new customers as soon as 2 weeks from now.

6GB/90GB for $40.50/mo with WHM, cPanel, SSH, personalized name servers, is oh so good!

i've actually started pointing ppl over to namecheap after hearing about it a few months ago. i used to recommend godaddy and dotster, but NC has been quicker in pretty much everything. good deal :)

I'm considering doing the opposite, switching from NameCheap to GoDaddy ... simply because NameCheap recently redesigned their website and it sucks! You can't even register your own personalized name servers (for now, they are aware of it and working on the issue).

Since I have almost 20 domains with NameCheap I'll probably stick it out, but if I get frustrated again I'll probably jump ship to GoDaddy.com

I also have a dathorn account with three paying customers (for now) @ $5/month each. I'm making a $1/month profit (plus getting my domain hosted for free). Then again, I'm making their websites pro bono.

Rossman:

1 & 4) I'm paying $40/yr right now for 200 MB and 3 GB/mo. My site has been actually using 20 MB and 200 MB/mo including email. It's not a matter of budget... it's just that I don't need that much, so why pay that much? I'm looking for something around 100 MB and 1 GB/mo for $20/yr... hope I'm not asking for too much.

2) I need more than 50 e-mail addresses. When I signed up for Dixie/3.95.com, I actually went into their IRC channel and worked out a deal with Gary to bump the amount of e-mail accounts to 100 :) A neat mailing list server with lots of settings (i.e. max. incoming attachment size) is a plus, but no big deal.

3) The CP at my Dixie account has been Plesk, and I liked it pretty well. However, they turned on safe mode a few weeks ago, which caused my installation of Invisionboard to stop working. So I guess no more Plesk for me :(

Ensim seems to be ok, but I don't have too much experience with it. The only thing that I notice is that there's a little delay when connecting via FTP, which is kinda annoying.

I have absolutely no experience with cPanel or H Sphere, although cP looks pretty neat in that blue tone.

Thanks.

well, I'm signed up for the mailing list provided by dathorn. Is the RossMan list significantly faster?

Here's another solution ... if you rarely use your webhosts tech support and just want affordable and reliable webhosting then consider getting it from an AT reseller. There's at least 2 dozen Anandtechers who have a dathorn.com resellers account which can spare 100MB webspace, 1GB bandwidth, cPanel control panel and best of all give you 100+ e-mail addresses.

That's very possible to do for only $20/yr.

yoda291 - My list runs off the dathorn.com mailing list and their forums, so their list is faster than mine is.

Rossman:

I wish I could settle with less accounts, but we actually have that many people that wants an e-mail account, lol.

I guess I'll just browse that WHT forum a bit... thanks :)

BTW, what control panel would you recommend, or in other words, what do you think of each CP?
