Games I loved:

Double Dragon
Bubble Bobble
Faxanadu
Golgo 13 (hard as hell but so fun)
Golgo 13: Mafat Conspiracy
Ninja Gaiden
Gradius
Hockey game from Konami, forgot the name (the one you can fight)
Mario Bros 2
Mario Bros 3
Two Zeldas
Battle Toads (also hard as hell)
Dragon Warrior
TMNT (first one)

That?s a difficult choice, I would have to say

1. Contra -the first game a bought when I got the system, I know I was a little late to the game but I played it over and over and over
2. Would have to be a tie between Zelda 1 and ff1, I don't think I could count the hours I spent on those two games alone

runners up would have to be: double dragon series, mega man series, SMB series, castlevania series, ducktales, little nemo, baseball stars, rc pro am, I could go on forever...

the original zelda (mmmmm gold cart) and metroid or arkanoid (with the controller) tied for 2nd.

i play zelda on my gba, along with the smb games. i love nintendo. my psp is neat as a device, but the games just can't compare.

Metroid - Justing Bailey cheat code....remember that?
Metal Gear
Zelda 1&2

Contra
Lifeforce
up , up , down , down , left , right , left , right , b, a , start = 99 lives for both of these games. WHO REMEMBERS THAT!!

Ultima
Dragon Warrior
Final Fantasy

30 lives 😛

Contra I could do without it, since much of the game is essentially scripted. Life Force, no way. Surviving the bit near the end where the M&M-looking things are barreling at you was pure luck.

Of course I remember that, and it's select->start if you want 2 players.

Gyromite was my first real live video game. All 5 of us kids gathered around the dedicated display case in Montgomery Wards and begged our mom to get it. The major selling point... ROB the robot! The greatest toy I never figured out how to use. I've never even heard of someone that could pass the first level with that thing!

And of course, the first and possibly last completely gold game of all time 'The Legend of Zelda.'

Posting before I read the thread so that all the nostalgia doesn't influence me... man this is a tough one...

I'm going to have to go with Metroid and River City Ransom.

Notable mention:

Ninja Gaiden
Double Dragon

Super Dodgeball??
Bad Dudes?? (Cyclone Kick FTW!!!)

and of course the unanamous honorable mentions:
Contra
Castlevanias
Super Marios (2nd one was best IMO)
Lifeforce (glad poeple mentioned it, one of my favorites)
Metroid
Zeldas
Blades of Steel (Hate hockey, but loved the game)
FF1
Double Dragon II
Tecmo Bowl

I think it was 30 lives for Contra , but 99 for LifeForce...Either way , ya the M&M things sucked so bad....but I remember maxing out the litte orbs that followed your ship that fired when you did "options" , then the laser , and the speed boosts , and the up and down missles maxed out....You could lay waste to everything!!
that makes me not feel so funny about remembering things like that , to hear that someone else does too!

Yes, you have other geeks to talk about stuff like that with. 🙂 Just messing with you. I still occasionally fire up my emulators to play some contra and lifeforce myself. I still remember that 30 lives code as well.

Metal Gear (although I liked the MSX version as well...maybe even a little better)
Legacy of the Wizard
RBI Baseball
SMB 1,2,3

One of my favorites that hasn't been mentioned was Jackal (the game with the jeeps).

When playing 2 player co-op, it was super fun.
