DOOM! Nothing beat getting a 9600 modem so you could dial up BBSs that were listed in the back of Computer Currents to download wads. Or hitting the Robert Austin show and buying a disc full of wads. Using serial cables for multiplayer. Good times!

As good as games can be these days nothing will beat that experience. Must seem like old people talking about kick the can to all the youngsters.

Easy- Minus SC2 because it's actually a port-

SC2 was a PC game. It was ported from the PC (DOS) to the 3DO, then the open source version was ported back from the 3DO. But it was originally PC.

Anyway, my answer is Civ.

Phantasmagoria (just kidding)

For me Diablo II was the biggest time sink of my last 10 years.

There are a number of old classic adventure games that I could list as my favourite, none of them pop up in my mind as THE favourite though.

Conquests of Camelot (really old graphical adventure game from Sierra)
Lost Secrets of the Rainfoest
Castle and Island of Dr Brain
Grim Fandango
Riven
Myst

Many others.

... classic being defined as the game has been out at least 5 years. The game can be from any genre ... RTS, FPS, etc.

I'm curious.

Freespace + Silent Threat
Freespace 2
MDK
MDK 2
Giants

just to name a few
