I rejoined Netflix, because there are so many good classic movies that I haven't seen, but I don't really want to buy them. What movies should not be missed? Anything from Chaplin, to B-movies, to the 80's would be acceptable here, I guess.

So far in my queue of classics, I have:

Cool Hand Luke
Godfather Trilogy
The Italian Job (original)
Gone in 60 Seconds (original)
Mr. Deeds Goes to Town
His Girl Friday
Sabrina
Breakfast at Tiffany's
Vertigo
North by Northwest
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
The Kid (Chaplin film)

I don't watch a lot of classic movies, but I really Like Harvey, Bringing up Baby and one that I can't remember right now. Oh! The Maltese Falcon! That was it.

Pretty well anything with Jimmy Stewart or Carey Grant.

Edit:
Apparently my definition of "classic" movies is quite different from other people's.

was the movie as good as the book? never saw the movie

I heard the book was better then the movie, but who knows. Isn't that what everyone says when they read a book? "Oh.....sooooo much better then the movie"

Thats why I only read non-fiction anymore. If I want a story.....I'll watch a movie.

The movie is a better movie, but this is not due to the story as much as other factors (cinematography, acting, etc). The one legitimate complaint I have heard is that the 21st chapter is missing from the movie, and in fact from many publishings of the book here in the US.

Brando or Gable? I prefer Gable myself.

Ya know, come to think of it I do not think I have ever seen the Gable one. Will have to put that on my list. :)
