You mean a river and a lake is not enough for Hyderabad?

Bangalore built lakes :)

Tokyo is on the Tokyo Bay, and a few rivers runs through it.

Vegas is a manufactured city, plus they pipe in from Hoover Dam.

Everyone needs water, it would probably be infeasible to have a major city and have to pipe in enough water from a long distance..

... Edmonton, Alberta? It's not that great, and I don't know what it's beside, but it's in the prairies.

Makes sense for it to be so hard to find one. They couldn't and still can't exactly supply a 'great' city without shipping lanes.
