It looks like a small pressurized batch reactor. We've got a few explosion devices for exploding mixtures of packed powders sitting upstairs that look like that device (they sure impressed the Army representatives when a few grains of metal eploded ripping small holes into the faces of the officers who looked too closely). But honestly it could be anything.
