Name this item on a power line (snowshoe/teardrop thing)

What is it called?
 
It's not a power line, it's an optical cable. The snowshoe thing is to make a 180-degree bend in it without breaking it. I don't know what's in the round enclosure, probably some sort of repeater or something.
 
its a service loop near one end of a fiber fusion splice. this is probably due to the fact of a car crash taking out the pole and breaking the fiber line, just as is about to happen again as you can see in the pic 😉 but this time, they can just grab more cable from the loop instead of re-stringing it back to wherever they would need to.

I was thinking that, as they tend to leave some slack, but normally it's orange. But could very well be. The cable itself is often black. so could be they just never put markings.

Seems at the right height for it to be communications as the higher wires are most likely electrical. And that big black thing at the end is probably a splice box. Pretty big for a fiber one mind you...

In the opposite direction. It's just to "use up" any slack that they left. If ever a cable gets cut then they can use some of that slack instead of having to splice two ends. Could also be a telephone cable, there could be like 600 or more pairs in there so if they can save from resplicing two new ends in the future it will save lot of grief and down time for customers. That one does not look thick enough for that though.
 
Picture was taken out the rear of the car, which looks to be a convertible. You can see the short antenna on the trunk.

Nevermind, it is the roof. \/

Picture is taken from a sunroof. The photographer is facing rearwards in relation to the car he is in and the car following it. Did you not notice the radio antenna? The better question is, Why is someone hanging out of a limo to get pics of electrical devices? The hookers and blow are inside the car!

yeah the 3 wires at the very top are your power lines. everything else underneath is fiber, telephone and cable lines. fiber splices are always enclosed in huge casings, thats just how its done basically to ensure the connection stays perfect (or .03 db loss maximum), and its sort of an all-in-one splice kit. they have to hoist up and work with $50K fusion splicing machines, so the enclosure you see there gives them a place to work on.

they sometimes are just cut and polished splices, which require a large enclosure due to the connector sizes.. but i doubt they would do that on poles... i would be shocked if it was anything but a fusion splice.
