Symptoms:

- Some things eaten are OK, some things aren't.
- Whenever this certain thing is eaten or drunk, within 15-20 minutes:

* heart starts racing/bounding pulse
* palms get majorly sweaty
* headache comes into play
* tingly feet/hands
* just a general feeling of yuckyness
* an hour to a few hours later, major upset stomach

It happened today @ lunch. Things drunk/eaten were:

- glass of wine
- root beer (cane sugar)
- apple bees fajitas (shrimp, chicken, veggies, guacamole)
- sugar cookie, though the feelings started coming before it

I know what you're thinking - lots of sugar/diabetes. I thought about that too, but sugar gets checked regularly @ docs and he never says anything.

Thanks!

Well, those symptoms are common with most food allergies, so it would be hard to diagnose from the list. You drink wine regularly without problems? Which of those do you not ingest regularly?

I'm no doctor but the rapid pulse and some of the other symptoms sound like Anaphylactic shock which is usually the sign of a REALLY bad allergy and can lead to death! The shrimp is the only thing in that list that I would expect would produce a really severe allergic reaction. If you don't know if you are allergic to shrimp or not I'd go to a doctor and get yourself tested for shellfish allergies. Otherwise as Baked said it could have been just a mild case of food poisoning.

Also you are listing too many things at once. To figure out food allergies you've got to isolate what you eat. One thing at a time. My best bet would be the shrimp since it is a fairly common food allergy

If its MSG, you can experiment at home with some. Do some cooking with and without, check results, post here FTW.

OK same thing happened today - except only tea was involved.

Had a sandwich, felt great.

Ordered two teas - one all natural herbal hot tea and a large iced tea (unsweetened)

Drank both. Had a refill of the large iced tea unsweetened

This was at Panera

Feel like crap now, same as described in first posting.

Ideas?

At first, I was guessing that it could be the sulfites in the wine. But after today.... What kind of sandwiches did you have? Do you usually drink much caffeine?

You could also have anxiety attacks that occur around food. I know people who have had similar situations.

In any case, I am not a medical professional. Maybe you should see one.

Sandwich was Tuna, on whole wheat bread, with honey mustard and mayo - doubt that was it though. Also had an apple.

Started feeling a bit like crap when I drank the two large iced teas (unsweetened)

Could it be caffeine?

Find a good allergist. Go.

Well now that it's happened a second time I'd definitely go to a doctor and not let ATOT diagnose it. Having said that if we were to go with the Allergy line of thinking the Tuna stands out. Last time you had shrimp maybe you are allergic to fish/shellfish. But then it could be any of a million things hence the suggestion you go to a doctor.

Well its not the shrimp, otherwise your tongue would have been swelling.

So your symptoms seem to be blood pressure related. I was going to say it was the alcohol, but the upset stomach is the catch. Did you put any cheese on the fajitas? Did the veggies include peppers?

Yes. Though that day I believe I avoided the cheese. The peppers however were definitely there.

As far as blood pressure related, agreed. My BP is usually a great 110/60 - 125/85, but during these times it spikes well into 140/90 - 150/90 when I've had it tested.

edit:
List EVERYTHING that was on that sandwich, and what kind of bread it was.

Try cutting out all liquids except water and make all of your food at home. Do that for a day or two to get your system cleaned out, then try one of the drinks that bothers you. Make a list of the ingredients, find some other foods/drinks that have them, clean yourself out for a day with water and homemade food, and try again.

Last year I found out that I am allergic to milk...I'm a completely new person health-wise since then. It was difficult to diagnose and I dealt with difficult health issues my entire life before then. Allergy tests just aren't very good right now for allergies like milk and preservatives. But if you can nail down the thing that bothers you, it's super easy to avoid it. Even with something as prevelant as milk isn't that hard to cut out of your diet when you know what the consequences are, and with the abundance of food available at stores now there are just so many other options you can pursue.

Good luck finding it!

No cheese on the sandwich.

Everything I ate today is here:

1) Bagel this morning
2) 2 large iced teas unsweetened, one large hot tea @ Panera
3) Tuna sandwich on honey wheat, with Onions, Lettuce, Honey Mustard, and Mayo
4) Apple

Felt like crap after #2,#3,and #4 - which were all consumed pretty much at the same time (well, within the same hour)
