Name the most life threatening or scary experience you've ever had.

Falling into a raging river up north (Sacramento, CA area) and being underwater for over a minute and half... found floating face down about 3/4's of a mile down the river.

Went through a glass storm door when I was a child and it cut my wrist up pretty badly. Needed about 50 stitches. A couple mm deeper and I would have bled to death before my Mom could get me to the hospital. They don't make storm doors out of glass anymore from what I understand.

Other than that probably my alcoholic step dad who used to get really drunk and threaten to kill my Mom, my brother and sister and me. He ended up shooting himself in the face one night and my Mom divorced him after that. That ranks up there on the scare meter.

Los Angeles riots in early 90s also ranks up there. I remember driving through an area that was being looted and burned to go pick my wife up from work. I drove through there with a loaded .45 in my lap. That was a pretty scary day.

Falling into a drainage ditch and nearly being sucked into the pipe was pretty scary. Luckily I had a winter coat that filled with air and a buddy to pull me out.

Walking across the limestone shelf above alaska basin, catching my toe on one of the pits in the stone, and falling in to a crevasse. It was only 2 ft deep but all of the others we had crossed were 25-40 ft deep. :Q

The most recent one was when we were hiking and decided to get up to one of the high points by following a scree field. We went straight up a steep slope of sliding rock. It definitely wasn't the smartest thing I've ever done.

Being held underwater during an experiement with floating things in the pool. Note: Avoid being topheavy and having contstricted movement at the same time.

I've had a lot of close calls when I was younger, I used to go riding in the mountains of N. GA on my ATV all the time and have gone tumbling down a mountain side more than once when I misjudged how step the incline was. I used to ride a motorcycle before I got a car and fvcked my self up plenty on that also, of course that was usually due to taking my street cruiser off roading, doesn't work very well.

Was attacked by a pitbull when I was around 8. It went for my face to kill me, but I got my arm up.
Ripped up my arms real bad.

Not to make light of your situation, but this reads really funny. Made me re-read the sentence to figure out he wasn't successful.

blew up a camp fire, ended up hitting a fence 10 feet away in mid air. I thought it was cool, i have never seen a mushroom cloud of leaves before or since then. But definintly not a safe thing.

Or choking on a cheese stick.

I was doing a bit of mountain biking and was showing off. Wasn't my bike, I took a turn along a ridge a little too aggressively, wheels lost traction while turning and I crashed sideways, almost lost my bowels as I skidded to the edge of the ridge stopping myself from falling by grabbing onto an extremly thorny bush. The bike fell a few hundred feet below.

At least it wasnt my bike 😀

Riding my motorcycle and crashing it, then getting up and seeing that I landed about 3 inches from the rocks that stick out of the side of the road (canadian sheild reigon). Came pretty close to dying that night about 3 inches but luckly I came out of it with a few scratches and some broken parts on my bike.

No problem. That was literally 25+ years ago. He put the barrel under his chin and blew the roof of his mouth and half his nose off. He wouldn't let the doctors touch him so we waited in the hospital until he passed out and my Mom gave them consent to stitch him back together and save his life. Moron.

didnt happen to me but my brother in law....he was choking on a candy at a party and everyone thought he was playing around acting a clown as usual so they were just laughing at him as he was slowly choking to death....

he finally managed to use a chair to do the heimlich (spelling?) on himself...

Mugged at gunpoint in Kansas City.

I was with two girls, visiting college friends. Two guys ambushed us, biggest one grabbed me from behind and put his pistol to the back of my head...the other (much smaller) one grabbed one of the girls. He had a pistol, too. The other girl ran for help. Needless to say I gave him my wallet, then they left.

Congestive Heart Failure at age 29

Went to the hospital emergency room TWICE within a month and was turned away. They were aware I had a heart condition, but misdiagnosed me. My aortic valve was bad (I have a congenital disorder). Anyway, third trip to ER I was blue in the face, couldn't breathe. They finally performed the proper tests, and I was operated on shortly after. After 9 hours of open heart surgery, I had a synthetic aortic valve replacement. If they'd waited any longer to operate (literally a few hours), I would have died.
