the hold a spear in one hand and that in the other. it is made from a water buffalos leg bone. when the lion attacks with its mouth open they stick that straight in and then turn it so the points are vertical. the lions reaction is to bite down and the top point goes through their brain and then the masai spears them in the heart. i would imagine death is pretty fast when done properly (or visa versa when not)
