today has just been full of great wild life experiences..

the 'possum tonight..

but earlier today i went out for a drive and came across this

it was about 5 feet long, basking in the warmth on the road. (btw, i live in VA, this was taken earlier today on a remote gravel road going through the blue ridge mountains just west of Massanutten ski resort)

we actually used to have a pet one of these, just like this one. exact same coloring. Except it got lose in our garage one day, actually pushed the lid of the cage off. that was many years ago though. i dont think this is the same one.

i wanted to get closer though.. becuase i was trying to figure out if it was a king snake or black snake. but it had very faint bands going across it, making me think king snake.

My cousin picked up a cottonmouth once. I told him not to. It spit in his face. It was hilarious, but he was lucky he didn't get injured.
