so true on both accounts. Need more Zelda 2 ripoffs like battle of Olympus (better than Link, I thought)

anyone ever make it to level 3?

IIRC, I could usually make it to the part after the buildings where the guys drop stuff on you... I'd need to look at a guide to know how far that is :p

Also there's a virtual NES emulator that lets you play nes games right from your browser. Not sure how legal it is so I'm not posting a link but.. everyone should know about this. Everyone knows about this right? Well, if just one person didn't know about it then it was worth reposting it just for their sake :p

(protip: google the bold)

also great.

Super Dodge Ball merits similar discussion.

as well as Nintendo Hockey. all fat-guy team FTMFW!!

I looked it up, the place I was describing was level 2. And no, I never made it to 3.
I DID beat the one on SNES, though! :D
It wasn't quite as sadistically difficult, but still challenging.

I remember that I got to a point where I could plow through Contra with only one man. craziness.

what about Russian Attack? it seems like "duck, stab at running soldiers/dogs" is a simple and easy concept; but oh my, NO.

Yeah, all those arcade ports that kept the difficulty that was intended to get more quarters were rough... I'm not sure I ever made it to stage 3 of Rush'n'Attack/Green Beret, either.

Holy crap... kind of like the OP that way my mystery game for the NES. I didn't have a NES, I had Sega Master System. I played Faxanadu at my cousins house whenever I went over there, but never ended up finishing it. Thanks for providing the name! :D

I wish I still had my Faxanadu code book! Used to have a notebook with hundreds of save codes for different games!

Seriously. How can anyone put SMB2 over 3? It did have its features but most of them were frustrating and the game itself got kinda boring/hard as time went on (from what I can remember). But what I *do* remember is SMB3 came out and changed the way I looked at platform games. It was so much fun to play and offered a great variety of levels.

Agreed. At this point after all the Mario-themed games that have been out it's hard to even call #2 part of the series. I don't hate the game or anything but it was such a departure from the norm looking back on it.

Oh yeah, and Zelda II: Adventure of Link.

How could anyone not mention the original Final Fantasy yet?!
