As seen on TV. I've only seen the ads a couple times but it is a little plastic gizmo that just zips around the outside of the package. I assume it has a small razor blade tucked inside.

how can you say it's simple? Even with a single transistor, there are many issues you have to deal with ... doping concentrations, the oxide interface, gate tunneling, etc ... there are equations that tries to model it's behavior but I don't see how you can call it simple.
