Orion's a name. It's just a name. You can name your own kid whatever you want, but otherwise, why in the fuck do you care? OP, if you're wondering why people are posting about shit besides the name, it's because your post contained a lot of shit besides just asking an opinion of the name. You went on about how retarded it was, how they're atheist so it doesn't have any meaning, how you'll only the call kid some nice standard nam elike Ryan or John, etc...you opened the can of worms yourself, there, chap.

If I were the parents, I would take this child as an opportunity to rid themselves of you.

If he get's picked on for his name, good. Better that than your experience of being picked on for stupidity.

Using incorrect grammar as you call somebody stupid makes you look absolutely brilliant, by the way.

Orion's not so bad. My name's John, and I F'n hate it. Everybody's named John, and I hear it all the time when I'm out. 10% of the time they're actually talking to me :^/

Orion's a sweet name. Everybody has heard it, but they don't know anybody with that name. Naming your son 'Orion' guarantees him a life of being awesome.

Those with children take one step forward. Not so fast randay. Way to articulate your thoughts into one sentence. Very conscise and well argued!

OK, for those that are young and idealistic, remember what school is like from 5th grade - 10th grade. Orion .... ya that will go over well.

grow the fuck up and stop trying to fix your childhood vicariously through another couples child.

Nothing like telling someone they are immature by telling them to grow the fuck up.

And way to answer the question. The only question I asked. "What do you think of the name Orion?"

Dear IAmaJackAss2004,

use some common sense and put 2 and 2 together and realize that i oppose all of your opinions on this matter.

calling someone by something other than their name is disrespectful. and telling a parent that their kid has a stupid name and that you will make your own name for their child is about 10 times as heinous.

My nephew is named Orion, and no one has had a problem with the name. I actually rather like it.

I like it too. Orion the Hunter, it's masculine. It's a great name.

When told us the name the have chosen, I told them to their face that I will call him Ryan or Brian or Bob. If they want to spend alot of time picking out a stupid name, I will spend very little time picking out a common alternative. So, Bob was one of the choices in my head. It's not like I sugar coated it. And they were offended that I said that. Sort of. They said I must call the child Orion. And I said that I will give the child a nickname. I don't know what but I will not use Orion. And they were mad. They were mad because I effectively said that I would call their child named Megan (for example), Meg.

Maybe it will be John Doe till I come up with a better name.

No, they're mad because you said the name they chose was stupid and YOU will choose something else that is "better" (not that you'd ever be judgemental  ).

Orion is a cool name, but I'd hate to grow up with it. Ryan would be a cool derivitave. Orion is too god-like/ominous sounding for a kid's name, why not name him something more sensible, like Odin or Zeus? 😀

Oh and BTW :
Seriously, I am not calling that child by its birth name once it is past 1 week old.

You're an asshole. Respect their decision, as dumb as it may be. If you can't be bothered to show basic respect for someone by calling them by their name, that's sad. It's fine to have an opinion and to voice it directly to them, but don't stomp all over *their* (not yours, be sure to note that) decision. Also, you sound like a nutjob control-freak when you say "Well if it made sense, then I'd call the baby by whatever name they picked, but *I* think it's stupid, so I'm going to be an asshole about it"
