There is a type of graph where you plot a timeseries and one axis on the graph is current value and another axis on the graph is previous value (2 dimensional case).

Does anyone know the name of this type of graph?

I want to say it is called a "phase space diagram" or something but the results I find on Google for that are not quite what I was thinking.

Thanks

Okay, here's a 2-dimensional example with pretend values.

There is one timeseries. The "x" axis is the value of the point, the "y" axis is the previous value of the point. Some points on the graph overlap.

In electrical engineering (and probably in other fields as well), they are simply called X-Y display\mode\graph.

Since X-Y is such a general concept, Google yields poor results, but you can find some references here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oscilloscope#X-Y_mode

I've also heard some people refer to it as Lissajous, but i believe it isn't quite right.

Are you asking for a specific use case, or general knowledge?

Hope this helps.

Lissajous figures are a bit different I think. Maybe if you could tell us what the application is, we could tell you a little better. The only thing that came to my mind is that you are considering a special case of a Granger analysis, but I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for.

Iteration plot? I Googled the term and came up with hits like that one. I don't know if there's a more formal term.
