Past Lifer 1957-2014 In Memoriam
Just like Bran Flakes can go from your best friend to your worst enemy as it momentarily shifts from getting you regular to making you unstoppable.

I'll start with Kill Bill volumes 1&2, Underworld and the Star Wars saga.
 
Twin Warriors (1993) - Hong Kong film starring Jet Li. He plays a Shaolin monk who gets kicked out of the temple for defending his best friend (also a monk). Well the two actually kick their way out technically. You'll have to youtube it and watch the incredible fight scene there where the two take on the entire school. Eventually, his friend joins the local lord and his army (ambition, lust for power, etc) while Jet sticks with the humble life. He makes a few friends and turns out they are rebels fighting against the greedy/oppressive local lord his friend joined. Not seeing the error of his ways the friend kills a few of Jet's friends and the two square off a couple of times. Pretty cool fight scenes, too.
 
Terminator series.

He goes from wanting to kill Sarah Connor in the first one to protecting her in the second one.

Oh, and Gladiator.
