I thought Buffy and Angel just finished their run and not technically cancelled were they?

They decided to end Buffy rather than let it wither and fade like other long-running shows. Angel had another season or two to go, but it was not picked up again, if I recall correctly.

Both the Buffy and the Angel story lines are continuing in comics under the Dark Horse label, though, with Whedon and his hand-picked crew doing the writing.
