Shadow of the Beast on the Amiga. You had to make it through the entire game without dying since there were no saved games. I made it up to the end monster three times, never made it. Just gave up because it took over an hour each time to make it all the way through the game.
I beat the Genesis version, which I think is a pretty close port, you have to do the whole game on one single life, and there are only one or two refill potions in the entire game. Fun game, trippy, but hard as heck. I never beat the second one, on SegaCD, but the music is just ... awesome to listen to. (As a matter of fact, I have a second Psygnosis soundtrack CD somewhere, that I got with one of their games.)

He was pretty easy to beat up, but the hard part was knocking him down the 3 times it took to get the TKO. It's been years, but from what I remember you had to watch for the wink.

His eyes flashed red or something and you had one chance to get a punch in, IIRC. Been a long time but I know I did it at least once. Otherwise I'd probably still be playing that game. :p

Some people can't stand myst type puzzle adventures. Personally I love them and have only had a few real problems passing them.

Hay I remember playing that! I don't think I even got past level 3 or 5.

Back in the NES & SNES days just about anything that Acclaim (sp?) put out was terribly hard.

I never did finish The 7th Guest.
I got pretty far in Privateer but never finished it. I wonder if it will work with XP, I might have to try, if I can find it

Solaris for the Atari 2600. It only took me 12 years to beat raiders of the lost arc for the atari 2600...

If I played pretty much any game long enough I'm sure I could beat it. Problem is now that I have video game ADD and I can't spend more than 1-3 hours per game (mainly due to owning wayyyyyy too many games...read: 58,000)

So even now when I got Devil May Cry 3, I could only play for one evening. I got Tekken 5 and just had a housemate make sure it worked, didn't even try it once...whew

That's mostely just tons of trial and error as most of the randomly generated minefields can't be solved without guessing in at least a few places.

Oh yeah I forgot....most of the "Psycho shooters" are damn hard! I love playing them and would gladly waste many weeks on some but could probably play till the end of time without passing some of them.

Ditto. Got to like level 8 or 9. The food items actually disappear at those higher levels. :(

Similarly, never beat Dragon Power (get to the last level, outer-space, and your lifebar just drains - WTF???), nor Ninja Kid, nor Muscle Thing.

Ultima Exodus on NES. It was just baffling.

Bubsy on Atari Jaguar. One hit kills + poor play control = eeew. From what I understand this game sucked on pretty much every console it was ported to.

King's Field on PS1 - slooooooooow torture.

Mad Maestro on PS2 - I pretty much can't get past the 5th level on this one. A lot of the time, Japanese developers nerf the difficulty on games before US release but that's not the case here!

I remember Dragon Power, was that the Dragon Ball game? Where you had to find the 7 dragon balls and I remember getting real far in that game. All I remember was the evil rabbit that turned people into carrots or something.

all I remember from chubby cherub was that I got pretty far and had to beat up the burglar with dog bone (for the 2nd to 3rd iteration).

Batman for NES.

There was that one jump that was impossible. My dad and I tried it maybe 100 times, and you just could not get to the other side.

Ok yeah, those Batman games for SegaCD, the ones with the super-fast 3D scaling driving levels, I never finished that game either. (Those levels get crazy! Same type of thing (same engine) in Cliffhanger too.)
