nothing at the moment, come back later for some salvia

again, it wasn't necessarily a thought-provoking movie, as it was more of an awe-struck type of movie for me. I thought it was delivered perfectly and I am a violence-whore. All the action in the movie made it even better, but I thought the self-vigilantism was actually great. Acting was believeable and just felt like it was put together and delivered quite cleanly.
Just out of curiosity how old are you?
Judging from your taste in movies i am gooing to guess in the 15-20 range.
I don't let the critics and box office ratings decide what I watch, I watch mostly independent and foreign films. But really if you think a thought provoking movie is one that is "kick-ass" maybe you should reevluate your definition of thought provoking.
Now if you want to watch some though provoking movies I would recommend the
Criterion Collection.

like the title says, can anyone name me a thought-provoking/'emotionally' powerful movie? I really enjoy a really good, deep movie. Something that leaves you for the next few days in a state of awe over what you just watched. To name a few movies I was that way with:
Butterfly Effect
Requiem for a Dream
I was in awe from:
The Punisher
Constantine
The entire Band of Brothers series
The Pianist
What puts me in that state of awe is not the action, thats not a required part, but the power and depth of the storyline. If its not performed well, I wont get anything from it either. A-class movies in terms of acting abilities is usually a prerequisite. But yea, its usually an already-powerful subject matter (as is the case of The Pianist, Band of Brothers, and Requiem for a Dream.. Constantine can be said to be powerful in those terms as well due to the religious/hell theme.).
So there it is, what I am looking for. Anyone have any ideas? Till then I am gonna watch War of the Worlds as its just a kickass movie.
Really?? The Punisher??
...
sigh
everything in my OP was more or less smashed together, trying to get something typed up without a story of my movie tastes.
The Punisher was a movie that made me talk about it for quite a few days and made me watch it a few times and appreciate it every time. I appreciated it for the movie itself, not once have I said it was thought-provoking. I said it was awe-inspiring simply because it made me think and talk about it because it was such a kickass movie. It doesn't standup against emotional and thought-provoking movies, sure, but its a good entertainment flick that actually has a good story behind it.
NOW, thank you
wvtalbot for completely misinterpreting everything I said.
never did i say kick-ass = thought-provoking, i simply stated it was a movie that 'struck awe'. I shoulda explained that a bit more.. sure, but still. way overblown out of proportion. Can we NOT focus on that one movie I mentioned? sigh
and I was only listing a short synopsis of movies I like that were in my dvd folder. I am mostly a war movie fan, but all the typical great ones I have seen, so I didn't feel like listing all of them as that would leave no other GOOD war movies left to even bother mentioning, so why list the good ones?
I have the Memento disc just sitting here, has of yet to watch that, think I shall. And I'm thinking I should revisit Platoon and Apocolypse Now, grab the Redux actually. Hell, probably rent Jarhead, haven't seen that since it came out in theaters.
Spidey, wow I haven't seen Contact in forever. Hopefully its on tv again soon.
and I haven't caught Passion of the Christ yet. Been trying to determine if it would be worth watching seeing as I am completely against religion. Think I'd like it?
and
JustinGoodie, are you recommending the modern Manchurian Candidate, or the original? I haven't seen the original, but the new one was crazy. Gotta watch it again, pick up on a few things. And I didnt really think Sum of all Fears was a GREAT movie. It was good, but not one of Clancy's better movies. I think they REALLY need to make a Rainbow Six movie. I heard there is one in production right now, but no clue. I hope it makes it to the theaters with a great director and big budget. Would be an amazing movie. I should check out Road to Perdition too I think, haven't seen that one.

it was only thought-provoking because of all the technicality to it. lol
Equilibrium was more thought-provoking than Matrix.
