i wanted to do something different for a girl this christmas, so i wanted to name a star for her. I am looking on the net for a place where i could name a star, but there are like 3 billion sites that does that. i was wondering which site really names the star and keeps it on a genuine national or international star named book. I dont want a corny site that publish its own book and names stars that has already been name by any other site....

They are all scams. you will get a bullsh!t document with a star chart showing you where a star has been named in exchange for you $$. The star will be so dim that you won't be able to see it even with a medium grade telescope.

Well, I "bought" a star last year for my gf. I named it with our initials and she thought it was pretty cool. You'd really have to know your stuff about finding stars and reading the charts to be able to find it, but that's OK. The chart and the plaque is cool enough, I guess.

Boiled down: if your gf is a very sentimental type, the star could work. If she's more practical, you might want to search for something more tangible as a gift.

None of them are "official" or used by real astronomers. They all publish their own books without regard to all of the other worthless registries. Just because one claims to be "the oldest" doesn't make it any less fake.

Some scammer has been selling deeds to land on the moon for decades, but I hope you're not gullible enough to think those deeds actually mean anything. Speaking of which, did you lnow that you won't find an entry for "gullible" in any printed dictionary? American Heritage, Webster's, Oxford English Dictionary, it doesn't matter how many you check.
