If you want some cheap fun - try the Ratbag "Dirt Track series"
-Dirt Track racing
- Dirt track racing 2
- DTR Sprint Cars

They can usually be found in "bargain bins" for $10 or less......... Lot's of fun sliding the cars through the corners!

Just got done playing the GTL demo (yes, with a wheel)... And then subsequently deleting it from my hard drive. Which is very disappointing, as much as I have been looking forward to a good PC racer.

To me, it's just inferior to the console counterparts (Forza, GT4, etc.) in pretty much every aspect.

I wasn't impressed by GT Legends either, but I love GTR:) All the cars and tracks from the modding comunity make it far better than any console racer IMO.

You know I traded Forza in for X-Men Legends: II... Forza was a huge disappointment. It's a great game and all except for one major problem. The restrictions on the races kept me from taking advantage of the customization of the vehicles. Too many stock races, too many HP limits, to me restrictions. I hated it, so I stopped playing and eventually just traded it in.

Burnout is fun, NFSU is fun... fun matters. Forza is cool, but not fun. I hate how you get rewarded in NFSU:2 by making the ugliest civic known to man, but NFS:MW should be the best NFS game ever concieved and I look forward to that. NFS is probably the most fun on the PC as far as racing goes, IMO.

QFT.... altho I also agree with ^ that GTR is good if not great... but it's a niche title, I find it a bit buggy, the online play doesn't work well , etc... But for a masochistic level of realism, give it a shot.

Sounds like you just prefer the arcade racers to the sim style. Nothing wrong with that! :)

Do you like the PGR series? PGR2 is probably my favorite racer of all time. It wasn't a sim, but it wasn't too arcady either.

I truly believe that PGR3 is going to be a small slice of heaven. And with every video I see, it only makes me yearn for it even more. :)

Whoa, could you explain why?

Wow, all this time I thought I was the only one playing RocknRoll Racing. :D

The first NFS pissed me off with all the ingame advertising, but the second one takes the cake. You can't drive a blockwithout seeing a BestBuy, and there's a huge Cingular icon right on your screen that you can't take off. Why aren't they paying me to play this game? Absolutely horrendous, and by far the worst case I can remember. I refuse to play any more NFS until EA issues a public apology stating that they will cease raping us with ads, and to fire that head monkey in charge of their quality assurance department. Which will never happen. Burnout for the win.

NFS PU was amazing. I still play it time to time. I wish they would come out with a second one. Grand Turismo 3 on the PS2 was awesome But I dont think it was as good as PU. But NFS MO for 360 looks amazing.

Granted, it's only the demo, but here's what I didn't care for.

Once, I drove right through the guard rail and got stuck between it and the fence. Couldn't get out, had to quit the game.

It took forever to configure my Logitech wheel for a comfortable sensitivity and dead zone. Part of that problem was that the menus are so clunky to get from the game to the options and back again. Everytime I went into the options, it restarted the race for me. Not sure if that's the way it was designed, or just so unintuitive, that I couldn't figure it out.
Never did get my gamepad configured well. I couldn't get the analog sticks to work precisely. Always seemed to be 0% or 100%.
Maybe some of the above is PEBKAC... But I'm no idiot. Been playing video games for almost 30 years now.

I played on everything but the highest difficulty, and the AI always seemed non-existant. (Either that, or they are programmed to be a bunch of pussies. ;) ) I don't recall the other cars even attempting to challenge me for a racing line.

And the rest is totally subjective. Didn't care for the graphics, as I've seen better textures on the Xbox. The asphault doesn't look any different than racing games did four years ago. The entire package was just incredibly disappointing to me.

Again, this is only a demo, so it could significantly improve. But it left me not very optimistic. I think I'll go watch some more PGR3 videos, or maybe head downstairs and play Forza. :)

nfs PU.. good times with that game. me and a buddy used to race, but we woudln't really race. there were certain parts on the maps in the outside and mountain areas.. you could get some speed up, run up the side of hill/mountain and launch your car. it was so hilarious, u could flip the thing so many times in the air.

I haven't played NFS: PU... but I am about to buy Cross Racing Championship. It's been out in Europe for a while.. and is going on sale in the U.S. on November 1st. Although, you can buy it directly from their site http://www.crc-game.com/ for $30 right now.

It is made by Invictus, well known for their cult classic racing game 1nsane.

If you've never played 1nsane, well... sigh. You should have. It's notable features included huge open landscapes and DESTRUCTABLE cars, unseen in virtually every other racing game.

CRC has similar features, including my favorite... destructable cars (ie.. cars can get mangled, lose tires, etc... all which obviously effect driving abilities). It sounds like CRC is a perfect mix between ultra-realism and arcade.... leaning more towards realism, though (a good thing).

It has track racing, city, dirt, destruction derby, etc... 8 player network play. Seems to be well featured. The engine is next-gen... has HDR imaging, pixel shading, etc...

Not sure what NFS: MW will hold for us.. it sounds great too. I'll probably buy both.. but definitely CRC. There's nothing better than ramming your friend and jacking up his car so he can't drive good anymore, ha ha!

I don't know what went wrong with EA's FF wheel support after Need for Speed Porsche. In that game with my Logitech Wingman FF (the original red one), it is perfect. Hot Pursuit 2, Underground and Underground 2 had terrible steering wheel control! Even when configured properly!

I have the same Wheel and have noticed that over recent years/titles. I just thought it was crappy support in games, but recently I went to Windows XP Pro 64 and during my search for Drivers noticed a warning from Logitech that FF was no longer available for my Wheel. Their reason was that it wasn't a true HID device(not truly USB, but a GamePort device with some USB functionality ie you can plug it into USB) . Suddenly it dawned on me that was the reason why it quit working in XP Pro.

It's time to get a new Wheel or revert to Win98 SE I'm afraid and there's no way I'm reverting to Win98SE! :D
