The Colin McRae Rally games (2004 and 2005) are sweet. Nice graphics, good detail, and variable levels of difficulty (full on in-car sim is tough).

The NFS series has been a real dissapointment lately. The series is all about "bling" and not about realism.

Are you looking for a really difficult simulator game?

I want a realistic one. I dont want nascar or anything of that like. I like the street racing and highway racing that took place in NFS porche unleased. Needs to have good multiplayer support over a network also.

I've been hearing rumblings about the upcoming Need For Speed: Most Wanted game. "They" say it's looking to be on par with Porsche Unleashed.

Are we talking PC or console? For console I'd say Forza Motorsport for the PC I'd have to go with GTR.

Forza., the only thing that could have made that game better would be shorter load times.

There still really isn't anything comparable, but hopefully Most Wanted will be somewhat simulation and not pure arcade crap. The CMR games are good if you're into rallying, and Live for Speed is a decent sim as well. GTR is supposed to be real good but I wasn't very impressed. So yeah when I bust out my wheel for a few races, I generally go with NFS PU. For how old it is, it is great still. It even has a widescreen mode, which doesn't put it in 1680x1050, but something smaller like 1360x960 and puts all the HUD text in the black area on the top and bottom of the screen. So you get your racing view completley unobstructed. Funny how they implemented widescreen in a such an old game, yet new games coming out now don't have WS half the time (but they are usually the crappy ones).

GTR is a great racing simulation. I still struggle with the game though - I just don't play enough - but I love driving the cars; there's an awesome sense of speed and acceleration and the audio is first rate (sadly, it doesn't support 5.1) Richard Burns Rally is a good rally sim and I always have some spectacular crashes, which doesn't say much for my driving lol.

PC, i dont play consoles.
That's a shame, because Forza is quite possibly the best racing game of all time.

However, I do agree that NFS: PU was the best PC racing game. I haven't found a PC racing game enjoyable since.

I've played a NFS:MW demo and I'm not optimistic at all.

I agree, at least for the Realisticish/arcadey type it was. Certainly the high point of the NFS series. I did quite enjoy Underground, 2 more than 1, but I've been wanting another PU type more than anything for years now.

Yeah, If your a fan of racing games your doing yourself a disservice by limiting your gaming to the PC. Thats one of the genres that the consoles dominate. Forza is definitely up there, Gran Tourisimo and PGR are also worthy of mention.

Try the GT Legends Demo, and as others have mentioned, games like Live for Speed S2 and RFactor are good as well. The only thing is, these games involve racing exclusively on tracks, not on the kind of highways, etc. that Porsche Unleashed had.

As some others have mentioned, Colin McRae is very good. I have the 2005 version for my Xbox. The damage modelling is second to none and it has a very solid feel. Also, TOCA Race Driver 2 is good.

GT Legends is not out for the US yet. But it's worth waiting for since it's from the same people that did GTR.

Richard Burns Rally is good too, and r Factor, from the people that did EA's F1 series.

CMR 2005 isn't as realistic as RBR but it's great fun, especially when you race people online.

EDIT: FWIW, I'm currently playing Grand Prix Legends, F1 Challenge, Richard Burns Rally, and GTR. :)

GT Legends is just friggin' awesome. I think you have to play it with a steering wheel, I prefer it over Forza(which I also have). Might be, because I don't have a steering wheel for Forza :)

GTR... is that street racing?

No, GTR is the FIA GT series. Some of the cars are the Ferrari 550, Saleen S7-R, Corvette C5-R (I think it's the C5, anyway, I can't remember for sure), several Porsches, etc. It's a pretty good game. Pretty hard, but it's great fun. A friend of mine and I play, trying to get my skills good enough to race in a league.

Edit: Anyone who's interested in playing GTR, shoot me a PM. I'm not too great yet, but I love playing.
