This was surely coded a different priority when the call when out than a man with a gun would be. 7 min is actually a pretty good response time in this case.

Just because he is well built doesn't mean he knows how to fight. If I had been there in that situation, I wouldn't have necessarily been intimidated by his size. Then again, I've been in fights and had training. I've fought against guys with his build who outweighed me by 20-30lbs of muscle, but beat them because they didn't know what they were doing.

I don't seek confrontation but once he started grabbing people/women I would have done my best to take him down.

It makes me wonder though. If this man had came up to me and assaulted me like he was doing others, what legal rights would I have to protection? I'm always curious, would I have the right to shoot him (assuming I had a concealed carry permit)?

I'm guessing as a citizen you're pretty much fucked since anything you do will be assault, or battery, or whatever they decide to call it. For a cop then they're free game. Empty the magazine on the guy and call it a day. Not responsible if a shot misses and hits someone else, either. Call the EMS to come get the body, and leave the scene to go to the next call.

The cops in this case handled it really well though.

Actually isin't that the station where a black guy got executed by a cop? This stuff definitely happens. Though in this case everything went down very well and I applaud the cops for treating the situation professionally. It can't be easy being a cop in such a crazy place.

Not unless you could prove you feared for your life or serious injury. California is also one of those states with a "duty to retreat" (essentially the polar opposite of "stand your ground"), so you'd have to prove there was no option to retreat, for you or anyone you were intervening for, as well.

You would likely have the right to use pepper spray, a taser, or stun gun on him. You'd still have to prove self defense, but if there was video of you being assaulted by him, I imagine you would get off just fine.

Well since he's wearing his birthday suite you know he's unarmed, if he attempts to resist a tasing is in order, in a brief moment of sanity when the cop showed and unfurled his baton he got smart and didn't resist.
