Michigan became an exception in the Nader/Camejo 2004 campaign when two-time presidential candidate Ralph Nader opted this summer to accept signatures from Republicans who wanted to get him on the state ballot.

Nader's vice presidential running mate, Peter Miguel Camejo, said their campaign accepted help from the Republicans in Michigan because it had problems getting on the ballot in other states.

"It's our reaction that we're being denied ballot status from Democrats all over the country," Camejo said. "Nowhere else have the Republicans gotten us on the ballot."

The Michigan GOP collected about 43,000 signatures for Nader this summer. To get on the ballot, Nader needed 30,000 signatures. His campaign had submitted roughly 5,400. Jason Moon, spokesman for the Michigan Democratic Party, said the Democrats would not have had a problem with Nader's petitions if the Republicans had not helped collect signatures, hoping that Nader would take votes away from Kerry.

"The irony is that Ralph Nader chose to accept the help of a party he has opposed his entire career," Moon said.

Heather Layman, a spokeswoman for the Republican Party who specializes in the Great Lakes region, acknowledged that the Michigan GOP had a part in helping Nader onto the state ballot and criticized the Democrats for trying to keep a candidate off it.

As of Monday afternoon, Nader and Camejo were on the ballot in 36 states. The Nader/Camejo 2004 campaign is in litigation in 11 states, said Kevin Zeese, spokesman for the campaign. In some states, like California, Nader will run as a write-in candidate.

In Michigan, he is listed as an independent, with an effort to get him nominated with the Reform Party currently sitting in the state Court of Appeals, Zeese said.

"The irony is that Ralph Nader chose to accept the help of a party he has opposed his entire career," Moon said.

or as one of my favorite sayings goes... "The enemy of my enemy is my friend"

Time will tell. The more ballots he's on, the more his peeps see him as legitimate and begin a slow crucial drain of Kerry support. A few percent might not matter? Tell that to algore.

..because your blinders prevent you from seeing that others may just have different views than you have.

That's rich coming from you. I'm all for diversity of political opinions, but I hardly think YOU are the person to lecture anyone on it. Or was I mistaken in all those threads where you bitched about how stupid all liberal are? Did you look at that picture from your sig lately?

I love that picture and look it at it often, so the answer to your question is a resounding yes. Link a thread where I asserted that all liberals are stupid.

"Sell-out?" How so? I guess Edwards is a "sell-out," too, as he said Kerry's tax plan would bankrupt America, yet now he's stumping that same exact plan...is that what you mean by a "sell-out?"

That's rich coming from someone who supports GWB. By voting for him, you are supporting his BORROW and spend ways. 2 trillion to the national debt (financed in large part by China and Japan) and nearly 500 billion yearly budget deficits. Your hero has increased the federal gov't spending and workforce to the largest levels ever. You're right it's not 1.6 million jobs lost ... because the public sector has added 800,000 jobs since GWB came into office. Everytime a Republican comes into office, we go into more debt? WTF.

Back on topic, Nader is a sellout and a hypocrite and has lost whatever credibility had left. I feel in some states the Libertarian candidate will outdraw Nader. Still, he could be a factor because of the relatively large Arab population in Michigan. anyway, Nader has marginalized himself because of his ego.

Translation: My talking-points memo from the DNC used the word "sell-out," and though I can't elaborate on it, I was told to use it when describing Nader because it sounds really, really cool.

Yeh, well, Nader won't get 90K votes again in Florida, like he did in 2000. I doubt he'll be statistically significant anywhere.

The huge surge in registration is the biggest factor in this election, and those folks didn't overcome their apathy to vote for Nader, or Bush, for that matter...

Exactly. New voter registration is up by almost 250,000 in Missouri. An overwhelming majority of those are new Democrats. Gore lost Missouri by 70,000 votes. You do the math.

Have they started the Smokes for Votes campaign yet? I'm still looking for a free pack up here in the District.

nope, I don't read any talking point memos from anyone. I read the news and listen to the man speak and make up my own mind. He is a sellout because he owns millions in stocks in some of the largest corporations in the world, the same types of corporations that he attacks.
Nader said to profit from technology stocks

Lastly, you didn't address my other point anyway, you attack Kerry's plan but GWB's RECORD is deficits and debt and you seem to be ok with that?

Nah, but if you attend one of Moore's Slacker events, and register on the spot, you'll get a three pack of underwear. Repubs are probably gonna need 'em... and a crying towel, too...
