Sup AT's!? :) i just recently upgraded to Windows Xp Professional from Windows 98SE and appreciate all the cosmetic changes very much.

upon playing my games though.... things have suddenly become slow... and i mean SLOW. halfway through baldurs gate 2 (Shadows of Amn)... i had the game configured to maximum detail... upon upgrading to XP pro.... i had to reconfigure the game to below the specs of a pentium 2 for it to run in the same speed as before. my other games also suffered a performance hit.

updates didnt help either. downloaded the latest Detonator for XP drivers, via 4 in 1's, and still it wont run as fast as it used to.

what am i doing wrong?? thanks in advance! MERRY CHRISTMAS! :)

I don't know how XP Pro compares to the 2000 series, but there may be too many background services running. Try turning some off.

Also, try running the game in Windows 9x compatibility mode.

Did you do an upgrade or a clean install?? If you upgraded 98 to XP then you will probably have some issues. If you clean install XP then re-install all your apps and games you wil have better results.

You will find lower FPS on 2000 or XP compared to 98, but not usually enough to notice. There are some games that just plain don't work good on the NT kernal, but I have no experience with the game you are working with.

I figure in the near future, everything will be built to work with 2000/XP.....

My only advice is to do a clean install if you havent already... otherwise, hopefully you will get some other replies from folks that know more about your game than me.

Merry Christmas

I am thinking that you need to update all of your drivers...98 drivers do not mix well with XP

did that already. downloaded the latest detonator xp drivers, via 4in1's, etc. still the same. oh, and now that i re-installed it with the clean install option, a pop up window appears everytime i boot saying my OS "just recovered from a serious error" and would like to send the info to M$.

this is getting to be no fun at all. can anyone else help me out??? :(

You might want to consider a dual-boot Win98/WinXP. That's what I've been doing, and will, until XP is more mature. At this point 98 just runs some apps better.

If you only have one hard drive, you'll have to format using FAT32, and use separate partitions for each OS. Be sure to install Win98 first, then install XP in the other partition. It's some what of a pain in the ass, but at this point it's the best solution I could come up with. Search for dual boot, and you should find plenty of info on the exact set-up procedures.

Good Luck.

thanks chain! :) really appreciate the help!
i have some questions though. do i need to install programs (like adobe photoshop 6) twice, one in each OS and in two seperate locations? or is their a way for it to be installed in just one place and the two OS'es cant just point to it. i only have one 30gb HD partitioned into two:

1st partition - 10gb NTFS
2nd partition - 18gb FAT32

thanks again! :)
