Ok everyone i am going to build my new pc cuz im tired of this dumb dell and i just have a few easy questions to ask.
1) I found a tutorial on pcmechanic.com on how to build a computer and i want to know if i should buy it.
2) Do modern computers still have jumpers?
3) Are the hardest parts configuring the mobo, configuring the cpu, and doing bios?
4) Is all the information im gonna need going to be in the manuals?
5) Is wiring the case going to be hard? cuz i have a case with 7 fans.
6) Am i going to need to buy anything else such as cables or something if i already have all retail parts for a ccomputer ie: case, cpu, video card?
7) What are some very importnat things when building a computer from scratch?
Any replies will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Anandtech!

1: I dont know the guide in which you speak, but the best bet is to head to a Bookstore like Barns and Nobles and look at their PC Build section. Find which one is your skill level and buy that.

2: Yes and No. Almost every motherboard these days has all settings defined in the BIOS and automatically configured. Mostly, Jumpers are a thing of the past.

3: Building computers is way easier than it was back in the day. Usually the hardest part, if you can even call it that, is installing the OS and Drivers. All the manual configureing of IRQ's and COM ports are done automatically. Unless you plan to overclock and do heavy tweaking, all you need to do is put the components in their respective places and load up the OS.

4: I have no idea being as I dont know what your skill level is. If you dont find your answer in a manual or book, ask here and someone will know what the answer is.

5: Hard? If anything it might be tedious to make sure they dont get all tangled. Any reason you need 7 fans? Do you plan to overlcock?

6: Most good quality motherboards from Asus, Abit, etc come with loads of cables. And if you get retail parts they come with cables also.

7: I cant think of a single golden rule if thats what your asking. I think in your case, as you are a newbie, ask alot of questions here and read a good How To book.

I never used a book for learning how to build a PC. Go ahead and get one if you want, but you shouldn't need it. I used google to find several helpful websites, and then I asked some questions on this forum. For the most part, the motherboard manuasl tell you everything you need to know. Get a quality power supply since you plan on overclocking.

If you don't want to read all those books, just buy the parts and then listed them here if you have any question regarding those parts. Putting hardware together is not so hard. Installing the OS is a bit harder. That was when I first started about 7 years ago.
