I have a SiS 648 chipset motherboard and downloaded the latest AGP and IDE drivers from here. Both are zip files with a bunch of different dll, exe, etc files. There is a setup.exe, but after I install that, can I delete the original directory with all of those files that I extracted from the .zip?
Also, do I need to uninstall my previous AGP and IDE drivers before I install these new ones? How do I do that?
Thanks in advance.

1) Download and install Driver Cleaner
2) Uninstall the AGP and IDE drivers using Control Panel if possible
3) Reboot into Safe Mode - run Driver Cleaner to remove any remaining traces of the old drivers.
4) Reboot the system and install the new drivers you extracted from the zip files.
5) You may to reinstall your video card drivers after updating the AGP driver.

You should be able to delete the extracted files once you've installed them. By using the setup program, all the new files should be installed to the appropriate place.

in driver cleaner SiS is not on the list (only SiS graphics), so i guess i cannot use it.
there is also nothing having to do with SiS in the control panel.
so, my only option is to just install the new ones over the old ones?

also, is it necessary to install the IDE drivers? i heard they already come with XP SP2.

You should be fine installing the new SiS drivers over any existing ones.

As for the IDE drivers, SiS may just rename the existing Microsoft IDE drivers (many manufacturers do this). nVidia is the only manufacturer I'm aware of that provides their own IDE replacement driver, and it generally causes more problems than it's worth.
