Responding to a neighbor's report of a break-in, police in the suburban Raleigh town of Fuquay-Varina said they used pepper spray Monday when 18-year-old DeShawn Currie "became profane, threatening and belligerent" and "refused to follow instructions" from officers.

Currie told ABC affiliate WTVD in Raleigh he became angry when three officers showed up inside the home and noted that he was not included in family photos on a mantle.

Police said there had spate of crimes in the area recently, but did not specifically say how many or what kind. Authorities said when they entered the house, Currie produced identification showing another address.

A police spokeswoman did not respond when asked specifically about what instructions Currie did not follow. Police also have not said how many officers entered the home, their length of service with the department or their race.

Something tells me nothing the kid could have said would have persuaded the cops he was a legal occupant in that house. Luckily, he wasn't shot after becoming belligerent after producing identification which isn't required to so in NC btw.

Thread title could have also been stated as "Neighbors mistakenly identified a black teen as a burglar."

If the cops do not confront this person, the headline would have been "Uncaring cops ignore community, leave civilians to fend for themselves against crime."

Why? Go hang out on a cop forum if you never want to hear criticism and just want to talk about these brave police officers showed that fucking black kid who is boss.

The statistics are 99.9999% of employes of U.S. law enforcement agencies did not piss you off today.

Statics are 99.9999% of employees U.S grocery stores that did end up pissing you off today didn't result in you receiving great bodily harm up to and including being killed.

Like I've always said, you don't fuck with the cops. Right or wrong, you will get burned by doing so. If they tell you to put your hands on the door, you put your hands on the fucking door.

I've done absolutely nothing to warrant a SWAT team raid, but if they busted down my door just now and told me to put my hands up, I'm not going to talk back. At least not until they've left and I've gotten ahold of a lawyer.

The statistics also state the 99% of all cops are bad cops in one way or another...and guilt by covering up for another cop counts!!

How about no? Maybe police can actually try to deescalate things for a change instead of instantly assaulting someone.

I saw his and his foster parents interview and the kid was most upset when it happened because when he tried to tell the police it was his home , and he was the foster son of the family, they pointed to the pictures and told him he couldn't possibly be a foster son because the family is all white. I think that just proves that there is racial discrimination and bias. There was no need to make such a remark to the kid or pepper spray him. Again, we have cops who are being antagonistic and escalating a situation instead of simply doing a professional job and getting facts. That could have just held the kid and try and reach the home owner to verify facts without making nasty comments to the kid.

Okay, how about you just provide a checklist for what police instructions people should feel free to ignore. That way when the bad guys refuse to do something like "put down your weapon" they'll know to deescalate.

And the rest of them did not piss YOU off today. Because as long as they wear the uniform, you're good with whatever they do.

He told the cops that he was a foster kid the foster son of the family. Yet they chose to still antagonize him and make absurd comments to the kids face knowing it would upset him. Why do that? Well, you do that to agitate the person in the hopes that you get to mace them in the face or taser them hoping for a reaction.

What? There was no crime committed. It is impossible the headline would read the way you are insisting. Cop Logic®: If we didn't do this bad thing then we would get criticized.

At least the teen wasn`t eating a sandwich or watering the front lawn.....the cops might have mistook the sandwich or the nozzle for a weapon.....

Evil will always prosper where good men do nothing. Do you dream a lot about your hands up on the door with your pants down to your ankles?

It's not the police who are escalating things in a lot of these cases. "Hey, passenger, you look like a fugitive we're looking for. Can I see your ID?" "No! F you!" "Hey kid, the neighbors called and reported a break in. Can you prove you live here?" - Followed by an ID with a different address and no pictures of him among the family pictures, and no ability to prove he lived there... Followed by the kid getting belligerent.

And, if you look at all the cop threads, it appears that quite a few of them backfire..
