Yes, frequently. It would take hours to compile all the references similar to the following:

Judges 2:11, 12 - Then the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served the Baals; and they forsook the Lord God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt; and they followed other gods from among the gods of the people who were all around them, and they bowed down to them; and they provoked the Lord to anger. [NKJV]

Each time they did worship pagan gods, it was a departure from God and the practice was not accepted by Him.

Same reason when people use symbolic imagery in the church to say the man is king and so he now has a right to beat and KO his wife.

10 years ago I took public transportation first time in many years and I let her up on the bus using my hand as she was wearing high heels.

As I helped her up a guy on the other side was dressing her up as "MY QUEEN"

He tried to push me away but I had none of that he got pissed off that he was not allowed to play his alpha maleness to her.

So we got off the bus and I kept looking back laughing at him.

So yes there are many people who act like that and demand to act like that in public.
