When they were "touring" the country, they visited Penn State University's Erie, PA campus. They said that Discovery wanted a show that wasn't perfectly scientific, because that would deter viewers. This format was a decent mix of some science, as well as guys who don't quite know exactly what they're doing - it keeps viewers.

But they're also special-effects guys who are working with limited time and limited budgets.
That's what I don't like - the time constraints. So much seems left undone because the producer (or whoever it is) says "time's up."

Redneck fun.

Time to light off some bottlerockets shoved in a piece of chainlink fence!

But I have to ask does the rope break?

Pic

easily the best addition to the show... she's like my dream girl... well, she's pretty much the dream girl of anyone nerdy enough to watch the show

edit: to see the pic, you have to copy and paste the link

And I don't think anyone with a sig like the OP has any right to comment on science.

I'm more interested in everyone else's comments than in making my own.

Anyway, if we can't lightheartedly poke fun at things, well how boring would that be? Myself, judging from your current sig, I'm not extremely surprised at your reaction to my sig, unless you too are poking lighthearted fun at a well-known topic, in that case we're all good and can return to pondering, or at least arguing about Mythbusters.

Despite the tone, there is nothing light-hearted about my sig.

Oh well, this is an entirely different thread that I don't care to start here, although I'm sure you can find several if you search the OT archives here.

Well, I would not say they are scientific enough to bust myths but I know that is they deem anything busted then the odds of it actually being possible are very very slim.

And their myths have not been that interesting for years.

I think the show is interesting, well at least it used to be, and it very well may spark some scientific interest in the audience. However as a research scientist myself, my personal opinion is that they really don't do science. But, I think it is all fine because they accomplish the task they set out to do which is what is important.

They pretty much bend science over and fsck it without a reacharound, but it has its good moments, at least in comparison to the rest of the crap on tv.

Heh. Imagine what Mythbusters would be like if it was aired on MTV instead.
