from what little I know:

*massaging his brain*

Assuming an infinitesimally fast conveyor, and that the force of friction due to the bearings on the wheels does not overpower the horizontal thrust of the propellers, it should be very simple:

the propeller still creates a decrease in pressure in the surrounding air, causing air to flow past it. This has nothing to to with the WINGS....YET. The propellers ARE the same damn thing. This causes the propeller to "pull" the airplane through the medium (air). Assuming that the amount of friction in the wheels is negligible with regards to the propeller thrust, the wheels will spin up to an infinitesimal speed while the propellers, and thus, the airplane continue to move forward. As the angular velocity vector (a force) continues to act on the medium (air), more and more lift is created in the orthogonal direction of the propellers (forward in terms of the plane itself) via the propellers (NOT THE WINGS). Thus, the airplane will continue to pull itself through the air. During all of this, the airplane might be moving backwards until the orthogonal force (basically a horizontal vector) overcomes the momentum that the plane has acquired due to the horizontal force of the conveyor (assuming that it started slowly enough not to completely spin out the wheels. Even if they do spin out even a minute amount of friction will allow the energy transfer affectign the planes position.

So, as the forward thrust continues, and as the airspeed over the fins propellers increases, the airplane will move forward.

Now, as the airplanes horizontal velocity increases, more and more air is forced past the wings, creating a depression that actually creates VERTICAL lift for the plane shell. When it reaches a point where it can over power gravity, the plane will begin to rise. As gravity is overpowered, the mechanical friction due to the wheels will decrease, allowing for the plane too achieve a greater horizontal velocity, which in turn will allow more air to flow past the wings creating even more vertical thrust....

secret: I always wanted to land Balou's plane in Tailspin:eek:

The boundary layer above the treadmill might even allow the plane to takeoff at a lower speed (relative to ground) than from a normal runway. However, as the plane lifts out of the boundary layer it would encounter wind shear, stall, tumble, crash to the treadmill, and explode in flames - flames that would get pulled all the way around the treadmill igniting the whole works. I want a video.

ah nuts...

I read your post. Though I have to admit I didn't bother reading any of the posts prior to my post concerning lychees, or most of those thereafter. But I did read yours. :p

I don't know a lot about planes and aerodynamics in general, but I do believe you hit the nail on the head....

What would happen once adequate vertically lift was achieved didn't come naturally to me so I was left there stumped. I would have to google stalling to be sure, but I do believe that the sudden lack of air pressure over the wings that the airplane would experience when it was propelled forward by the addition of the momentum to the horizontal force would cause a depression....

not sure if that equals great balls of fire but I sure as hell want to find out...

..from a safe distance;)

my brother is an aerospace engineer and i asked him this question... the plane takes off.

I think everyone has accepted that you are mentally deficient, so it's pointless to try to explain it to you.

Yep. It astounds me how dense and clueless some folks are. But hey, somebody has to fuel the 419 economy of Nigeria.

you havent proved anyything.
I want to re-ask the same question differently...
lets assume a different type of treadmill... A gerbill wheel.
lets put the plane in a gerbil wheel...

now what happens? will it move forward? or will it simply spin the gerbil wheel in place?

the fact that he fails to provide proof is a testament to this. Also, when you consider the childish threads he begins, and are locked soon after....

Please, dont hate because i'm smarter than you, instead hate yourself for not learning.
Please, dont hate because i'm right, instead figure out why you're wrong.
Lastly, get a life and stop hating on me and yourself, you look foolish.

Look in the mirror and check yourself and your attitude, then you'll come to the realization why you dont have a SO and friends. Im sorry if i'm being harsh, but the truth hurts. Healing starts now :cookie:

Sorry, but you would be the one looking foolish. How about creating a thread and poll on that?

btw, thanks for the cookie
