Mystery of lost memory

I just recently got a new comp and I was installing new memory and instead of 512MB it counts to 480. I suspect it's using the missing 32MB for the onboard video card which I replaced with a Radeon. How can I get that RAM back? I've uninstalled the display adapter and it's disabled in the BIOS. Any suggestions? My OS is WinXP

Do you have a video memory amount defined in the BIOS? Most have 2 settings - onboard video enabled/disabled and then the amount of shared memory you want to dedicate. Even if you have onboard disabled, some boards will still take away the amount of memory you have specified unless you set it to 0.
