Hey all,

I ordered a AMD 64 Winchester from an online retailer. I got it today, but it definetly isn't a Winchester.

Printed on the chip is: ADA3500DEP4AS - CAAZC - 0443MPM

What the hell is it?

A Newcastle????

A Clawhammer with only 512k L2 Cache????

Did I get ripped off???

edit: i paid $300 for it, so if it's not a Winnie I overpaid, no?

You got a clawhammer. AS=Clawhammer, AW=Newcastle, BI=Winchester, BP=Venice, BN=San Diego, etc.

So is a Clawhammer with 512k cache better or worse than a Winchester?

Meh, probably better than a cbbid stepped winnie. Just clock it and see how high she can go. If you aren't o/cing it won't make a difference.

Most likely worse if you intend to OC, that chips is 130nm whereas Winchesters are on 90nm...

From what I am reading a Clawhammer with 1Meg cache isn't even as good as a Newcastle and mine is a Clawhammer with 512k cache. Is this the worst possible 3500 I could have gotten?

Clawhammer(1 meg) = Newcastle(512)

I don't know about the 512 versions but I think they are clocked higher than the 1 meg versions. I wouldn't say its bad. I love mine.

I just got one of these same 3500 retail DEP4AS boxes from another retailer, Gameve, which advertised it as a Winchester, so it looks like some older stock is being cleared out of warehouses prior to the Venice core chips coming. Gameve was very nice and gave me an RMA. They said AMD told them these were the new chips with a 1mb cache. Mine had a build date of last September.

Funny. Mine was made in October of 2004. But the box clearly says: 512k cache. So I don't know how they thought it was 1mb cache. I'm trying to see if they will refund my money or give me the difference in price between and winnie and a 512 clawhammer. Which is about $30.

I read those threads and there is no verification that those are toned-down FX-55s or 4000. It seems like all speculation. Either way I still overpaid like $30.

Were you able to overclock to 2.7 ghz on stock heatsink and fan? And how hot is it running? Either way, the chip does seem to overclock well. But those $30 are bugging me!

You are paying $30 for a much better overclock. The new Winnie's have been really hit or miss.

He has a reject FX55. It should clock quite well just like the other ones on XS. I'd expect 2.6ghz minimum

2.76 is on water. these like to run hot though.

2.76 at 1.53 volts runs about 47C's 100% load
2.81 at 1.66 volts runs about 57C's 100% load
