Probably some dorks playing on people's paranoia. All of that stuff on that site could have been made up in a few minutes.

I'm going to say that nothing is going to happen once the countdown is done. I say this because I fast-forwarded my computer clock so that there was 30 seconds left on the timer. It ticked down to 0, and then started to load another page. To my surprise it brought up the same page, except now the timer said 1 day 1 hour. Closing the page and re-opening it put the timer back to 12 hours.

My take is that its an annoying gimmick, probably won't ever stop counting down.

What do you expect to happen? It has to resync with the server time. It's not a miracle. :roll:

Anyone expecting anything amazing out of this is sadly mistaken, I didn't know prophets were educated in PHP and JavaScript.

😕 The server is in Texas, I'm in California. How does resyncing with server time add an extra 13 hours to the timer? Last time I checked Texas was only 2 hours ahead of California.

How did prophets come into this?

I'm simply saying that just because the code isn't fool proof, doesn't mean it's proof that nothing's going on.

The first thing I thought of was a viral ad for a new Dan Brown book, although it says in his wiki that his next book isn't due out until 2007.

Hmm, so far the explanation does seem the most intriguing.
And oddly enough, it makes the most sense too.
 
my guess is that its some kind of viral ad for a game or movie or something similar that has to do with the end of times, or some kind of terrorist plot. im not aware of any movie in the near future that really would fit the theme of this site, and no movie can hide from IMDB or us theater employees. 😀
