Mysterious error (LIKE device connect and disconnecting sound)

Hey forum,

Yesterday or two days ago I formatted everything and deleted all partitions, after that I reinstalled Windows 7. Now, after this install my notebook is making the sound which is LIKE the device connect and disconnect.

I say LIKE because I have navigated to system sounds and played the sound and it's not actually that which is playing. After going through them all, this mysterious sound isn't even in use.

I have disabled the connect hardware and disconnect hardware sounds, and it's still playing.

I think it's safe to say it's a software issue, however I won't rule anything out. But it would have to be superb timing for it to be a hardware issue.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advanced for any help. 🙂

Hi Costas!
The sounds seem to play at completely random times. Although it's a notebook I rest it on a table and from then on it doesn't move during use. Also, as it's a fresh install I only have about 5 programs installed on the machine, and of them I only run skype, pidgin and chrome.

Hi db! I have checked the event log, and nothing seems wrong there, although I could be looking in the wrong place. It's not actually something I've had experience with.

Haha, the sound played as soon as I turned pidgin on. Not sure why I never noticed it before, but it's actually the contact signing in and out sound! It doesn't show a message when this action happens so I never put them together.

Gahh, glad we found it. 🙂

Thanks for the help anyway guys!
