How can I determine the physical size of a table in MySQL using PHP?

PHPMyAdmin goes it and even returns it in Bytes... how'd they do it?
 
You can get DB statistics using an SQL query SHOW TABLE STATUS FROM <dbname>. How did I find out? I checked the phpMyAdmin source code. Anyway, refer to the MySQL docs for detailed information.
