Msnbc myspace story

Shannon Sullivan: I honestly just thought it was my friends looking at it. Which is why Shannon disclosed so much on her space. She put her name, her address, and where she went to school? everything about how to find Shannon was on that site.

Aside from those of you who hate Myspace already, what do the rest of you think of this story? Any of you have kids old enough and found them with a page on Myspace or another social networking site?

Probably so, maybe, hopefully, this will help some parents. Hell educate the damn kids too, about these dangers. It never changes, kids think they are immune to harm. Think again.

i dont like myspace because it seems like the only people who use it have either emotional issues or...emotional issues. facebook isnt as stupid but its not too far away either. at least facebook has an organized, professional looking interface. myspace looks like a 12 year old with dreamweaver made it.

Seriously, I am sitting here at work, which is located at 1807 Lynn St Arlington VA 22209, suite 1100, wondering how people can be so stupid. I would never post the fact that I arrive at work at 9am or leave work at 7pm, and certainly wouldn't give out my home adress which is 6704 old dominion drive mclean va 22101.

Which is why I actively f*cking refuse to make a MySpace profile against the wishes of some dimwit friends. I will not be forced to learn CSS/HTML all over again to open up a door for stalkers, anyone I need to know me already knows all that I'd put up in the profile, and if I want to meet anyone new I'll try a thing I call "going outside"

I think that some people who aren't very tech savvy just take the head in the sand approach unfortunately. Instead of making an effort to learn more about computers to help better monitor their childrens activities, they just assume everything is ok until they accidently come across something. It's defintely the reactive approach rather then proactive.

I'm sorry but generalizing this to kids deserving what they get is a bit much. No matter how naive or stupid a kid is, they don't deserve the fate that some have met.

LOL, I don't completely disagree with you about this. However, myself, I have a limited number of friends because I only chat with friends I know outside of Myspace. Mostly, it's old high school friends I don't live anywhere near anymore I chat with.

i think right now if you have your age set at 15 or under, your profile isn't viewable by people except ones on your buddy list

they should probably change that to age 17 or under

The only reason I like myspace is because it's allowed me to get back into touch with people that I normally would have never spoken to again.

I'm 16yr old btw

People are stupid..

not only the parents but the kids and any retard that falls for that "I'll meet you in a dark alley, I'm in the black ghetto van" crap

Seriously, I use my space... The worse thing you can find out is when I was born and my real name... Wow... That isn't hard to look up.. Hey, grab a copy of the whitepages, you got tons of first and last names? Feel like knowing birthdays? There are a bunch of online services that provide that info, plus more...

Who give a $h!t if someone lies to them online... I know more than half of the members in Anandtech Lie all the times in their posts...

Pictures of kids drinking? For all you know, I poured sprite in an Absolut Bottle and was drinking it from there...
