Myspace give in?

Hi all,

I've always been SO KEEN on NOT getting myspace. Frankly, I think it sucks that all of my friends spend more time on that site than I do working at my job, which is pathetic.

Anyway, throughout college, I lasted without it. Now, its starting to get problematic. Here's why....

Conversations like this are occuring:

Me: Hey!
Person: Hey!
Me: How was your wedding? can you send me pictures?
Person: Oh I posted them on myspace, just look at them!
Me: Can you email them?
Person: OK! When I have time! (which never happens)

----or----

Me: Hey!
Person: Hi
Me: What's up?
Person: Hey I g/g give me a call on my cell.
Me: What's the number?
Person: Check out myspace gotta run!

*guH*

So I was thinking of getting one just so if I have to look at people's info I can. Is this giving in? Should I resist?

myspace sucks, I haven't update my profile in forever...use it to stay in touch w/ some friends who are hooked...

i was thinking about this last night.

do you all hate myspace because its popular, because of just the emo people who use it, because tech people aren't very sociable usually, or some other reason?

what i was thinking is that its great for people who are really sociable or have lots of friends/family that aren't close by or that they can't always keep in touch with.

i don't have any friends that use it and i've only signed up to see pages of some people i know. its not something i would use because i have like one friend, i'm not very sociable, and i don't like having my whole life on display for anyone to see.

I have this wonderous thing called my own domain, its like a myspace account only with out all the restrictions and advertisements.

Do it. I've found a ton of old friends that I've lost touch with over the years through myspace. You don't have to spend a ton of time on it... I don't know how people DO that. But it's great way to reconnect with old friends.

Some other reason... the site is designed extremely poorly. The ads are intrusive, the site is not user-friendly, and it encourages horrible design with the auto-loading animations, videos, and sounds. It is one of the worst designed sites to achieve popularity that I can think of. I'd rank it as bad as the early EBGames website where you do a search and random unrelated titles pop up.

Although ATOT would like to make all of your life decisions for you, this one seems a little ... trivial? Sign up. If you don't like it, don't use it anymore. Other peoples' irritation over a social networking site shouldn't discourage you from using it to communicate with people.

Amongst other reasons, it's setting page design back 10 years.
Ze goggles do nothing!

EDIT:The owner of facebook was on NPR this morning. He came off as a self-important, egotistical, whiner.

Er, I guess he is what passes for 24 year olds these days.

Now that facebook will be open to anyone today, I guess the child pervs will be logging on just about now.

I thought the <flash> tag was dead, but it's alive and well on MySpace.

🙁

I've seen some articles about the myspace guy(s) in fortune I think as well. Never been too impressed. I like the facebook guys and the moxie they showed when their news feed feature got some backlash.

The more friends you got on Myspace the better you look, the less friends you have... you are loser!
I sadly am in the loser group only got 22 friends.

If that is how you base success in life there are no amount of friends to help you.
