Say, while we are on the subject of Trillian... I've not been able to stay connected to MSN,
using it or real MSN Messenger (an old version, smaller, etc.) for weeks now. MSN's Messenger
page says said they have some problems for weeks now also. People using MSN that connect
still all seem to be on a new version. I assumed my connection problem was related to the whole
.NET thing that Microsoft is pushing. Any ideas why Trillian won't connect and stay?

P.S. Obviously, my vote is with Trillian. I got it just for logging on MSN, but it works good for
everything. I just keep the real clients around for testing.

<< it's bloated. :) >>

You just admitted to running 2 IM programs at the same time. Betya they're using more resources than a SINGLE trillian :p

<< i like having my mirc maximized in the background, i use my own script that ive been using for years. >>

Agreement there. IM's weren't made for IRC. I use mIRC for that.

<< miranda for ICQ.. very nice and small, i don't even notice it (and i barely use ICQ as it is).. >>

I've tried miranda. It's OK for just ICQ.

<< AIM.. with ways to make it a compact simple buddy list, directly from aol.. no problems.. no hassle.. :) compact.
i don't use yahoo or MSN
>>

I wouldn't call a big ad banner very compact. And editing each version to blocks ads sure seems like a hassle to me.
Directly from AOL -- You consider that a good thing? :D

Trillian is where its AT baby! :D

So, what up w/ MSN! Gmetech I'm TOTALLY having the "same" problem too! I can't get this friggin' thing to connect. I've emailed friggin' .NET/MSN about 7000 times and they keep sending me the same dagonlink! It's definately NOT working. It always says that its shutdown for my own safety or some bull like that...I'm sick of MSNs BS.

oh, btw...did I mention that
I LOVE TRILLIAN?? :D

God Bless

Is it to my understanding that if an AIM user posts a link in their profile, Trillian users cannot click on it? My friend, who uses Trillian says he can't click on the links in my profile because Trillian won't let him. Can anyone confirm this? :eek:

another vote for AIM+.

also, a "no" vote for trillian -- regardless of how hard the developers are working to keep connectivity with aol/msn/yahoo, i won't use an IM client that has periodic (long) outages from services.

when i say bloated i don't mean memory wise (i could careless, i have 512).. i mean its just got useless features i don't need (like the msn/yahoo/irc extension)

and take your pick for aim's banners.. deadaim.. aim+.. few others.. that kill the ad space and the banner, compatible with all versions.. :) yeah from aol, this way you dont deal with denied access..

Downloading a patch for everytime AOL blocks Trillian ---- sounds like a hassle to me.

thanks

oh i love trillian except it annoys me when aol tries blocking.

Not been a new release in over a month. Never had a singleproblem with AOL on Trillian prior to abou two weeks before that, and never one since. You're both making a bigger issue out of this than it is. Every indication is that AOL has given up.

Yup I have to agree with SethC here. I recently switched to Trillian 0.725 and I have to say that it's made some major improvements since the last time I tried it. Haven't had a problem with connecting to AIM yet and it gave me a chance to connect back to some of my friends that I otherwise might not be able to since I prefer not to keep several dozen chatting programs open at the same time. And to add to all this, Trillian has all the important features that you'll need, no bloated crap features that you don't. I think I'm going to make a permanent switch over to it. A vote for Trillian here! :) :)

I tried Trillian, but it would never connect. Like it would, but then it wouldn't bring up a buddy list, yet other people could see I was online, and I couldn't send or receive a message. I uninstalled it.

doh, everything i wrote just got erased....

anyways, here's how to get rid of those ads:
first locate the file called aim.odl (probably located where u installed AIM or if you are using the netscape version...C:\Program Files\Netscape\Communicator\Program\AIM)
open the file using a text editor such as Notepad or Wordpad
Scroll down until you see the code below. (or something fairly similar)
You can either delete those 2 lines of code or simply put a ; (semicolon) in the beginning of that code (as some1 stated above).

So it would look something like this....
BEFORE
on_group(5)
{
load_ocm advert required
}
on_group(11)
{
load_ocm advert required
}

AFTER
on_group(5)
{
;load_ocm advert required
}
on_group(11)
{
;load_ocm advert required
}

then just save the file and run AIM.
that's it! :)
