My Z-5500s are popping randomly

I got the Logitech Z-5500s for Christmas and they are great. They worked fine at home(no popping) but now that I moved them into my dorm the front left, front right, and center speakers pop randomly every 5 minutes or so(as far as I can tell the rears are fine). This happens whether sound is coming out or not. I'm pretty sure I installed the speakers correctly, the correct sound is coming from the correct speaker. My only thought is that the wires for my computer, monitor, xbox, and the speakers are all cluttered behind my desk. Does the close wire proximity cause this problem?
 
I've experienced speaker popping before, and its usually because I 1) have too many background programs running or 2) spyware. Check for both.
 
You could be getting some interference from the other cables.

Is this hooked up to the same computer and same soundcard?

If you have the speaker on but not connected to the computer, do they still make the popping sound?

I may have one or two background programs running but nothing is different from when the speakers worked fine at home.

i had the same problem with my z5500. whenver i light switch was turned on or off, the speakers would make a popping noise. i'm assuming it has something to do with the power supply in the subwoofer.
 
Even when not plugged into my computer, the speakers are still popping. This is happening when no sound is being produced as well. Cable interfernece then? What do I do to fix that?
 
Take the speakers into another room and a different outlet away from all cords and interference.

If they still pop when on, then something's wrong with them.

the audio cables plugged into your computer is not causing the interference. it's the power cable.
 
My guess would be mobile phone interference. I have seen this many times where the speakers act funny for a while as people receive text messages (quite handy sometimes as an early warning when you are reviving a text). It doesn?t have to be a phone in your room to set this off (I also live on university halls housing). My speakers (hi-fi stereo) don?t do this because I believe they are shielded as apposed to other speakers. You could try replacing some of the cables with shielded cables and see if that helps other wise just live with it (not like you can ban everyone from using there mobile phones so your speakers don?t act up).
 
I agree with the last post. I have the same speakers, and hear popping noise when the dish washer behind the tv, in the kitchen starts working. No poppong when it is not working.

check your power cord make sure its plugged in all the way..
check all connections something sounds like its touching
 
Here's what happens with mine: they ONLY pop when a light switch is turned on that's near my room... I can usually tell when someone enters the kitchen because I'll hear the pop.... Can you time the pops and see if the intervals are in a type of pattern? It maybe the circuits in your dorm building.. every time someone turns on a decently power consuming device, it pops... That's just an idea from my experience.
 
well, i have the X-530, not the same as the Z5500s but these are its lower ends and from the same company....i too had the popping noise before, i was using an NF4 motherboard with the integrated realtek sound.....my problem was fixed by upgrading to the lastest audio drivers from realtek...seems the speakers/mobo is really picky on what drivers you use.



but, since you said there were still popping noises when not connected to the computer, it's most likely your power cord not being shielded.......would a ups work as a power protector thing?
 
No guys, listen to me. It's not the drivers/plug not plugged all the way/wires touching. Test this. Let the computer off, keep the speakers powered. I bet you'll still hear the popping. It's the power lines. Use a filter on your speakers. That will do the trick. It's also cheap.
