I unlocked my cpu today, now my multiplier can only be @ 8.5 to be able to post.
Now i am running 8.5 x 166 using 1.85V. This is an old athlon xp 1600 (brown one).
Is there anything I can do to help the case?

That's only 1411MHz, just about stock speed. Even a non-AGOIA-Y (older stepping) should be able to hit 1500-1600MHz. Perhaps you shorted some of the bridges and the cpu is not completely unlocked.

What motherboard are you using? It does sound like one/some of the L1's are shorted, though.

Without unlocking the chip, i could run it 10.5 x145fsb.......
I suspect the first L1 was not connected fully because when I removed the tape, it sorta took out some of the defogger stuff.

update:

for some reason, my xp1600 needs to have the multiplier at 8, 8.5, or 11 to be able to post.....

right now i can do 11x140.
better than 8.5x166 i guess.
Thanks.
