My XP-Pro NOT recognising my hard drive !!!!

Hi All,

I have a problem and request help. I have a PC with Windows XP Pro. I have added a new hard drive as a "Slave". Western Digital-80 Gig . Everything went smoothly , it shows up in ,BIOS , It shows up in Device manager and is "enabled " and shows to be working properly.

However it does NOT show up in "My Computer" and I cannot format it. My Master Hard Drive , My Floppy Drive , DVD Drive , CD-RW drive everything else shows up except my new hard drive.

Pl. help me with this !!! :shocked:

Run compmgmt.msc (from start>run) and go down to disk management. The drive should be listed there. Right click the new drive and there should be a way to enable it or something like that, I can't remember exactly what it says, but you'll see it.

Or you can go into control panel, go to administrator tools, then computer management, and then enable the drive.

Hi Guys,

Thanks but it is still not working . The New hardrive is showing "Unallocated" in Computer Management while the Primary disc is NTFS .

Have you assigned it a drive letter?

Once you are in disk management, you need to partition the drive( it says unallocated, because it doesn't have a partition). Then you can format and assign a drive letter.

Thanks a lot to all . The job is done. The hard drive has been formatted and now appears in ,"My Computer" ready for use !!! Special thanks to stevty2889 for walking through the last mile.
