I've had 3 Creative sound cards with the most recent being an Audigy 2 and now using Realtek onboard HD audio. It sounds better and doesn't have all the crappy drivers.

I use a xfi gamer i bought really cheap and it has made a pretty big difference over the onboard sound.

The z2300 logitechs i use have a weak midrange and the crystalizer helps fix that quite a bit.

Asus Xonar DX. It's excellent, and no crappy, problem causing, static-ridden, works with 10% of all games Creative drivers to deal with.

I went to on board sound when my X-Fi failed, no difference to me. And I'm using Klipsch Promedia 5.1 Ultras. Foxconn BlackOps mobo.

I like mine too. I use it for recording. I have the breakout panel attached to it that adds midi, RCA, and 1/4" line in/out jacks too. Great card :)

I'm still holding a grudge against Creative for their awful drivers that they put out right after Vista was released. Man, those things were terrible... I got tons of static and studdering from them.

I loved all the speculation that Creative was intentionally sabotaging old cards. And the way they went after third party drivers that actually made their cards work better (or just plain work). Creative is awful. I really wish I didn't have to use their drivers indirectly through Auzentech.

Not to mention the drivers they released for Vista 64-bit that would cause a blue screen on any system with 4GB of RAM or more.

lol

That's hilarious. I didn't think you would actually do it. I'm sure it sounds great. I wouldn't know though... on account of the shitty sound card and headphones I use and all.

So did you listen to it or not? Your post is ambiguous.

I did indeed. I stated "I'm sure it sounds great" because it's impossible for me to know one way or the other what the quality is like with such inferior hardware playing it back. I'm going to assume it is.

Edit - I listened to it again... this time with the headphones actually on my head (I lazied out before and simply brought them close to my head). There are what appears to be tapping noises in the background. After you say "I scoff at you sir" you say "psst" on the left and then say "I'm over here now" on the right.

Edit 2 - After listening to it a 3rd time I now believe the tapping noises to be fapping noises. Am I correct?

Tapping is indeed me fapping...or the metronome on the armed Logic track. I don't recall now. ():)

Only retards buy sound cards. Everyone knows it's 99.999% in speakers. i would love to do an A/B test with you fools.

This retarted fool is going to have to bring the Xonar Essence SXT back to MicroCenter. Having the card installed knocked the secondary GTX 285 down from PCI-E 16X to PCI-E 8X. I put my PCI X-Fi back in and placed it in the PCI slot right at the bottom of the motherboard. I'm no longer using the 3.5mm jack on the TV and have the headphones plugged directly into the sound card on the back. It's sems to be very clear now without any distortion. I'm only going to use the SPDIF-Out for the TV alone. The Xonar Essense SXT is a damn fine card (to me anyways) for headphone use. Too bad I can't have this sound card installed and still have both video cards at PCI-E 16X.

I'd have to disagree strongly there. Onboard audio is quite crummy to a proper recording interface. Of course if someone is using a crummy pair of PC speakers then sure why bother? But if they record and work with this stuff for a living you can bet they will not be using onboard audio.

saying the xfi is better than onboard is not by any means justification for it. as an expensive stand alone soundcard, the xfi is expertly crafted from 100% fail. you can get the same improvement over onboard sound for about $20...and it may actually be better, if you're one of the many that experiences driver issues with the creative card.

This. It's all good till your speakers randomly switch channels and the front speakers become the back speakers and happen no matter how many times you reinstall the drivers or windows or switch slots the card is in. Creative can go DIAF.

$50 can get you a pair of headphones that will easily show the resolution difference between on-board and X-Fi, provided the music source is good enough :) And the X-Fi is much less noisy than on-board. I used my onboard when I was modding my X-Fi (adding opamps... that actually failed pretty terribly) and I immediately heard the extra noise, especially during HDD access and mouse movement. It sucked.

there's something wrong with your onboard sound or you're like .000001% of the population that could actually tell a difference.
